Hey Martyn, thanks for the input!
I know about the style, yet sometimes you gotta go with the flow to stay focused I guess... Expect some more 'typical' Icone trance in the future though ;) |

Nice quility on the 160kbps
1) The lead should be more upfront in the mix. althou its better then what you did in Sorrow
2) Bass should be much much much more powerful.
You can hear only the 1 half step up at the end of the bar. |

Thanks for your further comments mate!
You sure about that bassline? It sounds pretty mint on my subwoofer and headphones though... |

tried endlessly.
i am sure.
give it some punch and add a secondery layer for sub-bass to push it a little further. |

| bass is really cool :eyes: and sounds good here too so I wouldn't change anything. I didn't quite like the melody although this is really subjective. Overall it's a quality production. Nice job ! |

Thanks mate!
I already have two smaller layer on top of the deep/sub bass. I think the bass would drown everything if I add some more to it, so I will leave it like this.

Hi Wim,
Buildup is perfect for me. But his pad melody is really similar to to something, bu that is not a problem anyway. If I can be bit constructive
I would say rethink some parts of the melody a bit.
On the other I would be the first to remix this song:P, after I finish my other remix on your song. Apologizing mate that it takes so much time. |
agreed with Steve, about the melody. It has a lot of potential, but i would rethink the notes in some places a bit, not major changes though,
the buildup still do the things for me,
so overall i really like this track,
good luck with releasing it:)
ps.: let me know anytime if you did go any further with your remix of Cloudland
keep up the excellent work:)

Better quality samples Wim - good idea to keep the 'spotters' happy ;) ! Sounding great now mate - love the melody and the soundscape/atmosphere!
You have had a storming year for tunes - 4 out if I remember! Well its nearly 2005 and I hope you have a better year with more goals set to achieve! I wish you the best of luck in 2005 matey! |

I kind of like the melodies, but it's not my style of trance. Try using some catchier intervals. Some of the best melodies are written out of random... Don't think too hard on your melody. Just randomly click on and fix it to match the track or just jam on your keyboard and you'll come up with a load of cool melodies. Some of the greatest dance tracks have been written that way... like Markus Schulz presents Elevation - Clear Blue. I think the sound could be better. Try running the track through some soft clipping... or mix it down to tape... so it sounds warm and fresh... because it sounds too clean and plastic. I'd also add some dirty elements in the track, maybe some lo-fi elements or some distorted acid lines or clavs to liven the track up. Maybe something unexpected during the transitions (like a pause in the beat) a funky drumloop roll, sexy vocals, a beat drop, a record splice, an acoustical instrument, a key change ... ANYTHING... this just sounds too typical and generic.. and I don't think too highly of this tune.. sorry... maybe it's just my opinion tho :-\
I agree that simplicity is important, but when it sounds derivative of every generic trance song, it's not catchy anymore. Always try new things, you might come across a new idea by accident which can be apart of your signature sound!
That chord progression is so cheesey, overused and dated. You could liven it up a bit by including a phrase with some 1 or more nondiatonic chords or keep the chord progression and slap some groovy upper extentions and suspensions. I'd go with the nondiatonic chords, since almost everything has been done with this chord progression it's not funny anymore. Just the little things can make a huge difference in a track.
It's tracks like these that are killing trance, more than commercialism, more than illegal file-sharing. When a genre continues to inbreed amongst itself and never evolve, it dies out. |

Wim,
After listening it several times I must say I was wrong the last time I judged it. Excellent track :toothless
I think it just needed some extra listens to enjoy it more :)

Mmmm
I dont mind it :P
I must say tho, alot of my melodies are randoms!!! and some of the best electro/house tracks ive made have been random melodies ive made and my brother has walked in and gone, oh bring it into the studio and finish it and it's turned into a stormer!!
So yeh, I think tho it's easier to be more creative with certain styles of music and theres only so much you can do with some...
:D happy new year!! |

I totally agree... :) I used to look up to Icone because he was setting a standard of high quality tunes and was up there with the hottest producers and was doing impressive stuff just using Fruityloops (a program that is usually bashed by the industry)... I guess it must have gotten to his head and he stuck with the same sound for about 3 or 4 years now. All I'm saying is that I'm bored with it. Do something different! experiment just a little! I know Icone has potential. He just hasn't been using it for the past few years. I'm a harsh reviewer to producers I know can do much better. If you're a producer that's a noob. I'll review you like a noob. I'll be nice on you because I know I can only expect little from you, but Icone's been at it for years and he still sounds like he did back in 2001.
It's nice kissing up to your favorite producers when they do good, but if they're not producing to your expectation anymore, you have the right to let them know. |
