its time for an overhaul of what is "Canadian".
Sorry folks but being canadian shouldnt mean shelling out a fortune for a half rate health system and then having others tell you how to live because we cant run it properly. |

I think that yes at times I agree that paying medical bills for people knowingly putting themselves at risk can be annoying, but a private medical system is a bad idea.
Take redbull for instance, not everyone knew that these medical conditions would arise from it. You can eat or be exposed to anything that could possibly harm you in the future, then it is you that other people end up paying medical bills for.
So be greatful that we have the medical system that we do :) |
Of course having to pay your own way like in the US is a bad idea. But at the same time id rather have that than a bunch of whiners using that to hang over my head everytime they want to try and tell me how to run my life. |

Wholy dude....I was only kidding....lighten up:rolleyes:
Tellya what...let me go back to my post & put a proper smily thingy so that you won't rant on about banning life itself... |

If one was to apply the logic of increased health care costs to ban a range of products and activities then those of us with no kids, or intention to have some, should rally to ban procreation as it increases the costs of education and healthcare since we do not share in that "activity"; ot those of us who live downtown should object to suburban living as it increses the costs of infrastructure, or how about banning suntanning because of increased skin cancer risks....get my drift !!!
If i pay my taxes, then i should be allowed to indulge in a whole range of "silly" activities that the government subsidises in one form or another.....because by the same token i am subsidising a whole range of nasty and stupid ideas that i do not partake in!!!
On grey wintery days with the current level of idiotic political correctness and self righteouness prevalent in our society it is so easy to confuse this city/province with "pleasantville".

| this new legislation to ban smoking rooms and smoking on patios (places where non smokers do not have to go) is about changing the behaviour of smokers. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting non-smokers as the current laws now do. |

This is to Jayx1 also: The government has a responsibility to protect the consumers from dangerous products on the market. I wonder how your arguments would change if your younger sister, without knowing what she's doing, overconsumed something potentially dangerous (be it Redbull or whatever) and dropped dead from a heart attack. Would you still be complaining about your freedom? I would hope not!
The bottom line is that while the governments motivation to ban this is not concern for our health as much as it is political, the end result is that something that possibly causes DEATH is taken off the market. This can only be good.
So while you may want the freedom to do whatever possibly destructive things you want, that really is a selfish way of looking at it. |

If someone drops dead from red bull then they shouldnt be drinking a large starbucks coffee either. Should we ban that too? Shouldnt people be aware of what they can and cannot tolerate?
Let me let you in on something that happened to me a couple of years ago. I was partying with my friends and drank 5 bottled red bulls (the stuff not mentioned here) and vodkas in an hour. I had a really bad reaction to it and got the shakes.
Why? Because i was really stupid and used a product with alcohol (it says not to) and drank five in an hour. I wonder what would happen to me if i drank 5 large coffees in an hour. The point is that because that happened to me due to my own stupidity do you think im now going to go around trying to ban it? NO way. |
