eh i'm a michael crichton whore, so naturally i'd recommend anything by him :p

but other than that, life of pi was excellent, anything by hubert selby jr (requiem for a dream etc), and above all others, ishmael

I strongly recommend ANything by Haruki Murakami... my favourite work by him so far has been The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Fantastic author.

"Mercy" forget the author but its a thriller... a lot like 8mm (the movie) but way better.
