| thanks a lot mwd, thats what i wanted to know, so you are suggesting maudio card ? does it need to be an asio card? maya would work? |

I would go with a firewire or pci card. M-audio 410 is a great card.
I have two of them, and would sell one if you are interested. Also, look into a midi controller as you could use that as a mixer within live and it would be totally customizable. |

| any links for midi controllers? how much are you selling your card? |

i heard the firewire 410 has rubbish drivers. you dont get very many inputs either. i think its only 2 in/6 out. thats 1 hardware device you can plug into it. for 250 odd quid its a ripoff when you consider the edirol FA101 is also a mobile firewire interface with 2 preamps but has 10 ins, 10 outs and is better built and looks cooler AND costs 299 quid - only 50 quid more for the ability to plug in multiple input sources - in live performance it is often desirable to have more than 1 bit of hardware on the go at any one time. opens up your options.
for midi controllers it depends largely on your budget. the best entry level controller is the evolution mk245c. there are other iterations of this keyboard with more keys if you need them but they cost more. you can map any variable in live or any variable through any softsynth running in live (or any sequencer for that matter) to any of the rotaries + sliders on the controller. alternatively, if you have a hardware synth you can use that as a controller. i sometimes use my access virus as a controller - the rotaries feel really good and theres a boat load of them. also, certain hardware synths come with keyboards that are rather good. the access virus full sized keyboard has a gorgeous semi weighted action. alesis QS8 has an amazing fully weighted action with all the trimmings although the control surface is small. if you want to manipulate the texture and properties of the sound live you may be limited by this.
lastly. live remixing is not like DJing. dont sell your decks and go all out on production - seriously, try it first and see if you like it - theres plenty of demos for you to try out including a limited ableton live demo. production can be such a mind its not even funny. its definitely not for people who like immediate results. |

| When you say live remixing isnt like dj'ing what do you mean? You can use live to play entire length songs , not just loops, arrangements, etc.. |

| Its not like DJing at all. You have to produce all the loops yourself so if you suck at production you will sound terrible. If you just want to rip your vinyl to Ableton Live and adjust the tempo using the program and mix like that then I'd say you suck. |

| pretty much what zild said. you can play full tracks in any sequencer but you would be wasting your money if thats all you use it to do. if you are gonna spend the cash on getting live + the audio interface + the midi controller + any additional hardware, you have no excuses not to use all that stuff to its fullest potential. if all you wanna do is mix mp3 rips of your record collection then get a copy of traktor DJ and that'll fulfill your all your needs. if you wanna produce songs and build up and breakdown your own tracks in realtime, process some or all of the sound in realtime as well as perform or rearrange certain parts on the fly, then live + some of the rig mentioned above is probably what you are looking for. |

I don't think it uses MP3s you have to use WAVs. (I believe) |

I do but I think its a huge waste if you're not going to use Live to produce your own loops and beats. |
