| ableton is just a sequencer. you will still need something like reason to creat sounds and such. but with ableton by itself, you could sample songs and make pretty cool songs out of that. you could then incorporate that into a set. ableton is the and anyone saying that it is not, does not know how to use it. i have used it soldily for the past year and i am really familar with it in regards to dj'ing |

| I know there is no mp3 support, but is it possible to add support for mp3 with a VST plugin? I don't know much about VST's... |

this isnt true. ableton is VSTed up so you can create pretty much any sound that any VSTi can make. and there are thousands of those. not to mention its MIDIed up (unlike reason) so you can hook up your hardware rig and record from it. reason is a sequencer just like any other except its a closed platform - it doesnt support open standard plugins (like VST or AU) and is designed to be an entirely self sufficient application.
there is no plugin that adds mp3 support. you can however expand an mp3 back into wav format and use that. however, all the degradation incurred as a result of mp3 compression will still be present in the wav file. as a general rule i would advise against using mp3s for the purposes of live performance/mixing/remixing although it depends on the bitrate, the frequency response of the speakers you are playing out and how hard you are driving them. in some cases (bedroom producing and house parties) its perfectly fine to use mp3s but some hosts dont provide mp3 support, possibly for one of the reasons above. its only in the past month that mp3 support was even added to fl studio and im amazed at how many poorly encoded mp3 samples ive accrued in the past year. poor to the point of being unusable in a song, when when monitoring at low levels in my room. |

But there is vst that plays mp3, you may use it on any vst host (it has pitch bending, looping, bpm counter from tap and some others)
look at http://www.askywhale.com/vst/

I agree w/ MwD. I produce w/ Cubase Sx and at first I was unimpressed w/ Live. But keep at it and you'll uncover the potential. MwD do you have a place where we can dl your tutorial? I would love to see anything I missed.
The only negative thing I've found using Live is...well if you're famous like G&D I'm sure promoters wont mind what you're using, but for people like us its kind of hard convincing others to let you dj if you just bring a laptop. Even when I explained I was going to be remixing mostly my loops/samples and not just loading ripped files many promoters were hesitant.
So its cool to play w/ it in your room or parties, but I found it kind of hard to use it alone at serious gigs. If you make it "big" I guess you can do anything you want. So I would keep the decks and learn to integrate it w/ Live for now. |

question...
I have a Xone : 92...can I have it interact with Live in a way that all the faders and rotaries control functions in the program? |
