You said in your original post that if you switched alcohol / nicotine users to MDMA and weed that the death tolls would be significantly higher for the same number of users.
It is my opinion that, if this were the case, the death toll would be a fraction of that caused by alcohol / nicotine addiction. |

How often would you assume they were to use MDMA and/or marijuana? Everyone wouldnt use it as stringently as they have when its illegal.
Obviously people wouldnt be able to smoke 2 packs of cigs a day if it was illegal. (it would be hard/expensive at least) |

Well, in the case of smokers, I would allow that the former nicotine now turned marijuana smokers could smoke on a daily basis. Obviously, they wouldn't smoke 20 joints (or the equivalent of cigarettes a smoker has) due to the effects of marijuana, but let's say 5-10 times a day.
In the case of MDMA users, I would say maybe 2-3 nights a week is good. People who like to go out and drink usually don't do so more than that every week, if they are responsible, so I believe this is a fair amount.
EDIT - I've got to get back to work. I'll continue this conversation later when I've got time. |

Well, first I dont think everyone would keep it down to 5-10 times a day, but many could, and would I guess. I'm not really sure about the statistics here, because there is alot of bull on both sides, but don't you think that marijuana smoke can cause just as much damage if not more than cigs? I mean, I know its alot harder on my lungs. So right there I personally think that the long term death rate from marijuana would be easily what it is of niccotine, if they realted those deaths to marijuana as easily as they relate deaths to cigs today. But thats really just my opinion. I really dont know who to beleive about marijuana smoke, but I know that I personally feel that it is worse.
Really there what we're comparing is smoke though...I mean if you were to give people thc pills, and then give people niccotine pills, I'm pretty sure there would be alot more thc related deaths...but thats not the way anybody consumes either of those drugs.
As far as MDMA goes, 3 times a week is fine, but how many pills is each person consuming? There isnt that much long term info in MDMA so we dont know what kinds of deaths we could link to MDMA use at some point in a person life.
I've never used MDMA so I honestly dont know what its like, but is it safer to drive a car while on MDMA? Do you hoestly think that regular MDMA use is easier on your body than drinking? I dont think its any easier on your organs than drinking either.
I mean I theres hundreds of thousands of people who drink once in a while (all drinkers dont drink to get drunk) and its very beneficial to their health, so I dunno...
I do think that the marijuana to niccotine rates would be very similar, though. Although I personally think that marijuana would be worse simply because it has similar health effects, while having much greater mental effects. But as far as the MDMA comparison goes, its pretty hard to judge...I mean people have been looking into that drug for what? 20 years or so? While drinking has been around for ages...
People have liver problems because they get drunk everyday for their whole life. I would really like to meet some people who have done ecstasy from their teen years until they die, and see how it affects them... |

| Using MDMA 3 times a week is much worse than drinking 3 times a week. I don't think marijuana being illegal stops anyone from smoking it people will do what they want to do regardless of the law. I dislike tobacco and and I don't smoke cigarettes I don't care if they're legal. That leads me to think that people that don't like smoking marijuana wouldn't just start smoking it if it were to become legal. Nicotine is a very strong poison, THC is not. |

Not at all. People who try drugs arent druggies either, but judging from the extensive list that some people have here, it's quite clear that there are some pure druggies. Which is a shame.

The thing is right, I have been doing drugs for 6 years now, at one point very heavily, now not so much, but that doesnt make me an addict. I dont sit around waiting for the next time I can get a hit over whatever, I just enjoy doing them every now and again, just like those who like to get pissed every other weekend or so. Does this make me a druggie?
I hate the way the term druggie is thrown around, coz it groups us (Those who can do drugs, but still lead normal lives, with good jobs, nice places to live and such) into the same category as smackheads who mug people to get enough money to buy their next fix. |

| Its like this. All peeps that like drugs are druggies. Not all druggies are addicts. Not all addicts are druggies, there are many forms of addiction. |

People would smoke marijuana more because it would be legal/easier to get, harder to get caught...etc.
People wouldnt just do it in their own homes anymore.
More people would smoke it if it was legal. I'm sure of that. I know various people who have stopped because its illegal (drug tests for jobs) or simply getting caught, and not wanting to get caught again. And despite what you think, some people do still have morals, and simply wont do something because its illegal.
I would smoke it everyday if it was legal.
I don't smoke it often because its not legal.
People who wish to leave the country for whatever reason also avoid smoking it. My friend cant go to the states anymore just because a cop decided to bust him.
I mean just look at the dutch, Its legal there, and I'm sure theres a higher smoking rate than in the states, or most anywhere else its illegal. They might not all be regular users, but I'm sure a large amount of people have tried it, simply because its legal.
As far as the niccotine vs. THC thing goes...I dunno, health things aside, niccotine does nothing for me but speed up my reaction speed, while thc affects me pretty harshly... |

Zild is WAAAAAY off here. Lets think. Alcohol - Neurotoxic. Marijuana - not Neurotoxic. thats why you don't see commercials saying that marijuana kills brain cells. instead you just run over little kids on bikes when driving out of the drive thru. Alcohol - physically addictive. Marijuana - not physically addictive. psychologically, possibly. If someone gets utterly sloshed three times a week for the rest of their lives I would assume they would be ten times as ed up as the occasional smoker. people smoke pot every day for a good majority of their lives, and saying that they're all ups or they smoked themselves retarded is just plain ignorant.
and if you guys want me to disprove the myth that smoking 1 joint is like smoking a pack of cigarettes, I've got this nice little comparative analysis on the amount of carcinogens in pot as opposed to tobacco.
my word of wisdom, as I've said 1,000 times before - moderation is the key.
*edit* I just realized he was talking about MDMA and Alcohol, not weed and alcohol. my bad. must've been all that weed that's been making me retarded. |

Getting "utterly sloshed" Shouldnt be compared to being an "occasional smoker"
Having a glass of wine a day should be compared to having a joint a day.
Obviously with having a joint a day, there are not very great risks. But the risks of having a glass of wine a day are pretty much none at all... Although depending on the person, a joint a day could be dangerous. For me smoking one joint and driving is easily as dangerous as an average person getting drunk and driving.
Weed affects me pretty hashly though, more so than most people.
EDIT: , I just read your edit. |
