if it stinks like gas, they are long since dead. Calling the cops, who will likely just wait for the landlord with keys doesnt do anything except make cops wait. They arent going to bust a door down because of a smell.

Like Kevin said, there was nothing in the basement.
And there doors that we can't get into, that the landlord is trying ti find keys for.
The house it not a old building. The walls are pretty secure, I think it may be something with the rain and a leak somewhere. |

Problem found, paint that has gone bad. Along with other assorted cans of related stuff. All stored in a closet under the stairs with no ventilation. Paint can omit toxic and explosive gas when it goes bad. Check this out http://www.chemaxx.com/explosion2b.htm
Paint is being removed today. |

A single exposure to n-hexane can produce vertigo, giddiness, and drowsiness. Longer-term exposures can lead to peripheral neuropathy, the first signs of which are symmetrical paraesthesia and weakness, particularly in the lower extremities. Headache, anorexia, dizziness, and sensory impairment may precede, or accompany, the neuropathy. Most patients show diminished reflexes; there may be loss of body weight. |
