Both North Korea and Iran had and still have close ties to Russia. When they were building nuclear reactors (in both places) - who was there to help them??? good ol' mother Russia.
Russians a) have ICBM capable of hitting any city within continental US b) plenty of engineers just dying to be working again and c) are very experienced at creating covert nuclear launch points.
Can you safely say that Russians did not have their dirty little fingers in both pies and in fact have supplied both with the weapons and/or "know how" to deter the old enemy - Uncle Sam? With Russia vying for more international presense of a supercountry - its zealousness has no limits. The Syrian debt, of 10bln was just written off yesterday. wonder why? Syrians are encouraging Russia to take a bigger part in the Middle East - e.g. be the opposing force to the US/UK/NATO. As I said before - we have the front row seats to the new Cold War and possible WWIII. No wonder so many people are trying to find the "easy" way to resolve the Middle East conflict - e.g. get rid of Israel and problem will be resolved as well. A bit off topic...
I dunno, quite honestly - I'm more concerned for 200 or so nuclear warheads still missing from Russian inventory, some of them no larger than a football and can be detonated from a brief case.
Wonder how much a nuke costs nowdays on a black market?
Sweet dreams...:clown: |
Actually you make an EXCELLENT point except that your example isn't right... substitute China with Russia and you have many of the things you just mentioned as being a reality... not sure about ICBM's though. |

Just an update. I read a brief article on drone sightings across Iran and just want to share a section of the article. Is the Defense dept preparing preliminary war plans? I'm not sure but the article suggests that US drones are doing more than surveying Iran's nuclear facilities.

U.S. Uses Drones to Probe Iran For Arms
Surveillance Flights Are Sent From Iraq

....
"It was clear to our air force that the entire intention here was to get us to turn on our radar," the official said. [Iranian Airforce Offical]
That tactic, designed to contribute information to what the military calls an "enemy order of battle," was used by the U.S. military in the Korean and Vietnam wars, against the Soviets and the Chinese and in both Iraq wars.
"By coaxing the Iranians to turn on their radar, we can learn all about their defense systems, including the frequencies they are operating on, the range of their radar and, of course, where their weaknesses lie," said Thomas Keaney, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and executive director of the Foreign Policy Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
But it did not work. "The United States must have forgotten that they trained half our guys," the Iranian official said. After a briefing by their air force three weeks ago, Iran's national security officials ordered their forces not to turn on the radar or come into contact with the drones in any way.
"Our decision was: Don't engage," the Iranian official said. Leaving the radar off deprives U.S. forces of vital information about the country's air defense system, but it also makes it harder for Iran to tell if an attack is underway.

| I think it is obvious at this point that the US is considering military opperations against Iran as an option. At least preparing for worst case senario. I mean the country is right inbetween of our stragic military placements in the middle east. North Korea is one thing but our forces aren't necessary streched too thin for an Iran invasion. Maybe not today or tomorrow but I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the next 4 years. |

Haha, the Daily Show tic-tac-toe thing?
I think this will happen at some point, though it might not be a full ground invasion. Even if we get most of our troops out of Iraq, it would be tough to deploy them again so quickly, especially when a lot of soldiers still in due to stop loss policies can finally get their discharge. |

Bush said he will not rule out military action against Iran. I guess time will tell.. afterall.. this administration lies alot.. so what they say today about anything can turn out to be the opposite! |
Bush also said he will make sure education will be a big issue in his secound term, however they closed 14 schools down in Ohio.
Also creating more jobs in the U.S. , but they laid off 800 people from the NASA . |

We don't need an all out attack on Iran, just a pinprick to destroy their budding nuclear capability. As a contrast, a first strike on nK would be necessary to destroy their nuclear capabilities, since we've sat back and let it happen and grow into a real threat.

If they do join this they will get wiped off the the region or they will have lots of casualties in their hands.Dont forget Iran is no Iraq, they wont sit back and watch Isreal or U.S. to just bomb them. They will hit back very hard without a doubt. |
