hey, without a doubt if your going for a pc, go for an amd athlon 64. tops any intel on the market easily. honestly, even if you load up your computer, you can still easily stay below the 2000 dollar limit. here's an idea of what you should get
amd athlon 64 3500+ 90nm socket 939 retail ($285)
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merc...uct_Code=120429
(best processor for the price)
msi k8n neo2 platinum motherboard socket 939 ($139)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-130-468&depa=1
(amazing motherboard, u'll get firewire, usbs, everything is pretty much plug and play)
silverstone temjin black full tower case "sst-tj06b-w" (139.99)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-163-035&depa=1
(case is up to u, but this is an excellent choice)
pdp systems memory dual channel ddr pc-3200 2x512 mb ($177.91)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-220-006&depa=1
(this is 1 gig of very good ram, extremely low latencies. if u want more than 1 gig, i suggest just buy double of this. i wouldn't suggest getting the 1 gig sticks of ram because they don't necessarily have the lowest latencies and they cost a load more. honestly though, i only have 1 gig and my computer handles logic fine.)
rosewill 500w black powersupply ($55.49)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-182-002&depa=1
hitachi 250gb 7200rpm sata harddrive ($126.99)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-145-071&depa=1
(crazy fast harddrive, plenty of space, if u want even more get 2 of these =P)
sony internal 16x dvd+/-rw/cd-r+/rw ($60.50)
(these things are cheap now, basically all in one package)
radeon 9800se video card ($132.00)
good video card for the price if u want something for ur graphics or games. not the best, but good enough for most uses.
m-audio firewire audiophile digital audio interface ($179.88)
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3958811
(soundcard is up to u but i like this one)
lets say u get the minimum of everything i say, that still only totals up to about $1296.76. lets just say add the shipping costs etc.. up to about $1400 or so. that leaves you room to get a faster cpu instead of the 3500+. i personally just built a computer with that chip and i think that is the best chip for the price. above that would be the 3800+ or the 4000+ which is the same as the fx-53. i think its a complete waste to pay up to the 4000+ or the fx-55 but if thats what you want go for it. do NOT get a socket 754 cpu. get only the socket 939's. the 3800+ will go up to about $630. 400 dollars more which is not worth it at all imo. 4000+ goes up to 800 dollars i believe. i personally would take the leftoever 600 dollars to get more ram, (if you would like) more hard drive space, more expensive/different case, better soundcard, or some nice studio monitors (i recommend the krk rokit rp8's, these things sound amazing). basically you can't go wrong with the computer parts i recommended. those are almost the exact same parts i just built my computer with and i gotta say, i can run logic with tons of vst's beautifully with no problem. you will be amazed at how fast the 3500+ is.
or you could just go out and get the cheapest Dual 1.8ghz PowerMac G5 for 2 grand and it'll solve all your problems.... :p . thats what i personally woulda done if i had more money, but pc's always hold a special place in my heart because of video games :D.

u dont need a 2000$ pc to produce..... thats just my opinion

| thanks for the comments...i peronally had no idea how much it would cost, but my ceiling was $2000. Im all for computer that just gets the job done and spending the rest on monitors or other equip. Anyway...im not gonna have the full 2k until march sometime. so prices will prob drop. Thanks trancin chink for the full list, i appreciate it heavily! i'll be pm'ing later in the future to see if parts have dropped in price...and prob end up paying you for building it for me. Thats if ur up for it. thanks again every1. next time i'll post it in the right forum. |
