because I have a clue unlike you :p

.......why do you even bother talking
torontotrance
when you have a clue, I'll answer that question. You won't, so I don't need to answer that question.

.............why do you hate trance?
torontotrance
who says I hate trance, I have a huge collection of trance from the glory days. It is not hating trance, I just think many deejays have seen better days. I dig Christopher Lawrence and JooF but not to the point that you do with Armin, Nickson and co. I've been disillusioned with the industry of late but I still support it, or else I would not write for ivibes.nu. Lots of us still dig trance but we have expanded our music tastes to a huge level. I was'nt completely dissing Second Sun, to get PvD to sign you does take some luck but I never found their stuff any good, even when I was a PvD whore, yrs ago. Anymore questions brownta4life, send me a pm.

I do think there's a 'pop' flavor to Second Sun's vocal work. I'm not pretending it's underground or some pretentious garbage like that. But that doesn't mean I think they're , anymore than I think eurodance is .

(Clue: I love eurodance)

i just heard a sample for Pop Muzik (Second Sun Remix)

Describing something as Gay or homosexual is not necessarily wrong.

gay or homosexual can be used in either a positive and negative connotation .

When I use the term 'homosexual' or 'gay' in reference to music I am referring to a style or sound which is flamboyant and/or over-the-top.

I also use the term 'gay' or 'homosexual' in a positive connation to describe clothing or fashion.

When I use the term 'homosexual' or 'gay' in reference to clothing I am referring to a style which is 'fresh', 'new' or 'hip'.

The vocals in second sun are, in my opinion, over-the-top and at times even flamboyant.

For example, Depche Mode, New Order, etc. all exhibit vocal tone which sounds natural yet exotic. It doesn't sound over-the-top.

NOT EVERYONE in the 80's had the homosexual vocal tone as you say Cobalt.

New Order

Pet Shop Boys

Depche Mode

U2

……shall I continue

However some 80's band did sound 'gay' though:

Classic example : Boy George,George Micheal, Pee Wee Herman :), etc

Borderline over-the-top ----> The Cure
Now I believe that one can overcome poor vocal tone IF the lyrics are done well. Perfect example is boy George or the Cure.

The problem with Second Sun is the vocal tone is flamboyant and the lyrics are just as fluffy.

Personally I like Second Sun's instrumentals more

Explain what in particular makes the instrumentals stand out or sound good in comparison to other trance/prog song.

Pick a song and explain to me what makes the instrumentals sound good. Seriously, I want to understand your point of view.

What I like most about Second Sun is that they craft very simple but memorable hooks that are more subdued than anthems but more distinct than progressive layerings. Few few other artists do this well, Evolution and Carlos Resoort being among them. They also use a fairly unique set of samples, unlike the many supersaws clones and McProg twinkles. Also, Second Sun tends to structure their tracks into stages that are different but related.

Example 1: Original Crush. The first hook is 8 bars long, but sticks with you instantly and doesn't sound like anything else. The climax of the track turns into an epic riff, but it grows naturally out of the first hook, and still sounds distinct. The pads that open and close the track further compliment these two components. The track builds in a proper and measured way, characteristic of all their productions.

Example 2: Love Simulator. The lead is 16 bars long, but is easily recognizable and distinct from the zillions of ASOT-style melodic interpretations. The percussion and stereo profile has depth and variation where others are flat and software-sounding. The lead is crisp and energetic, relying on percussion for support, rather than taking a main lead and filtering it to death in attempt to make it sound "fuller" as epic artists tend to. Second Sun understands that it's the whole combination of distinct elements which give a track character, not just the depth of the bassline or the blaring buzz of the overbearing synth lead.

I'd be totally happy if they stuck to instrumentals alone, but I don't horribly mind the vocals, and they sometimes add tone and character.

Check Playground. Not as good as the above two, but it's the same signature style of balanced elements, original melodies, and multi-staged construction, without Antoine.

Some people don't like the stripped-down leads of Second Sun, and that's fine. But I feel the style provides a core to build the listening experience around, unlike progressive, while not feeling buldgeoned over the head, like with Dutch epic.

Let me apologize in advance but I think all you guys are smoking crack. this entire album is very cheesy.

Let me explain myself.

I download itunes and bought all the the songs. I listened to all the tracks but did so grinding my teeth the entire way through.

to be honest i wasn't impressed with the male vocal tone nor the lyrics on any of these songs. the vocal pitch is very high;almost homosexual in nature.
Don't get me wrong I love male vocals. But imo it just doesn't sound good here.

All the songs are constructed in such a simple structure with sound elements that really don't intrigue me.

For example remember that song this summer called Jump the Next Train? Remember how high pitched the male vocals were? Remember how empty the lyrics sounded? Remember how simple the structure was? Well this is how I felt about this entire Second Sun Album.

He said She Said is the stand out track on the album. But its still bad. I started listening to this track. 1 minutes into the song I realized this sounded like a typical trance tune.Nothing that made me say 'wow. this is cool' or made me feel like I want to dance. Worse, it has the cheesest female vocals in it too.

I am not sure where all this hype is coming from? could it be the Vandit syndrome? Or the Paul Van Dyk Playlist syndrome? I don't know. But what I do know is that you shouldn't waste your money on this album like I did.

3/10

acutally its the love simulator syndrome :D

I really liked it. Have you heard the radio mix of the spell. The vocals are really nice instead of the stupid KNOW YOUR NAME KNOW YOUR NAME.

I really loved the pop musik remix. Very clubby.

the only disappointment was the VERY DUMB track called My bed is Burning (i think this is where you are directing your vocal comments at).

Anyways i don't know about you, but this album is sweet!

really you didn't have to waste money, all you needed was time in the trash can

PEPSI CAPS

Also, i wouldn't say the lyrics are weak
look at the spell

"I stood there paralyzed and you just walked away"
"I cant function without you...yet I don't even know your name"
"As I walk the streets that night still looking for your face"

really got goosebumps when I heard it
arturob
I walk the streets asking, looking for your face
I just can't help myself; how long for your embrace
This is forbidden, I know this can't just be a game
This time I know my luck will never be the same...

heh :D
