Organizational Representation
Since employment equity is defined as a program to create equity and fairness in employment, under representation of designated group members within an organization points to inequity and barriers to entry for designated group members. According to Ontario’s employment equity legislation under-representation is defined as “the difference between the proportion of designated groups in the community and the proportion of designated groups in the employers’ workforce in (I.E “the proportion of job opportunities [new hiring, promotions, or transfers to fill new or vacant] positions that will be filled by designated group members as a result of employment equity plan”) Where under representation is found employers will have to develop and implement outreach programs to increase the representation of designated group members.

Which means government sanctioned racism.
Its complete bull and its a practice that needs to be stopped. Supply an equal opportunity educational system and let people get jobs based solely on merit. If they happen to be brown, black, white or purple then good for them!
Equality my ass |

could it be that they're only trying to make the population of parole officers correctly represent our nations demographic? |
What about other demographics than racial demographics? Shouldn't the parole officers also represent a fair portion of conservatives, liberals, males, females, heterosexuals, homosexuals, tall people, short people, handicapped people, people with cancer and diabetes, illiterate people, underaged people, people with different hair colours, renters and homeowners, car owners and commuters, and members of parliament? Shouldn't there be at least one of each working as a parole officer to accurately reflect our country's demographics?
You see how ridiculous this argument gets. Racial equality carries the implication that a person's race is an arbitary criteria, therefore it makes no sense to "force" the demographics to be equal in any specific field. What you're talking about here - choosing people's jobs for them (or pushing them very forcefully into or out of a given field) merely in order to eliminate statistical demographic inconsistencies - is COMMUNISM. Make any rejoinder you want, the fact of the matter is that a "statistically and demographically equal" society is a communist one.
We should strive for independence, not homogenity. Every ingredient is equally important in a cake, but you don't use equal proportions of all of them, otherwise it turns out as . |

I apologize then, you're generally not the sarcastic/devil's advocate type so I assumed you were actually pushing that side of the issue. :p |
