I wonder if they sell them at the Guitar Center. Gonna have to check it out tomorrow.

not really

If they're specially fitted

bout the same price as a pair of HD-25's isn't it? Not too bad at all really

i guess but i can just grab a bunch of free earplugs at work. they may muffle the sound a bit more but if you got headphones strapped to your head i doubt it would affect the mixing too much. just seems a little expensive for some glorified earplugs.

Freak, you said in the other thread that you had a choice of -9dB, -15dB and -25dB. What made you choose -15dB of the three? Did you consider changing to the other filters while you still had the trial period?

I was happy with -15s!
I feared that -25s may be too much, and make me feel too detached from the music.
Since most systems wont realistically exceed a peak of 120 something (unless they are really stupid), I am fine with the -15s for when I am playing,or in a lower volume club, and I then have some NRR rated non custom ones, which are the equivalent of like -40dB for when Im in a loud venue either socially or before/after playing, or doing the lighting or whatever.
Its all to do with exposure times.

No problem with using the free ones for social ocasions at all- I do too. But this is my livelihood, foam ones are not too hot for mixing purposes- either in headphones or using monitors, and they become uncomfortable after a while.

each to their own and all that- but i still stand by what i said-this is the best investment i have made.

Cheers for the info.

Yup.. I was stupid enough to buy -25... it is way too much.
I don't feel the energy in the music when I wear them.
When i go out and there's this good song I really like, I take the earplugs off just to enjoy the song.

Thinking about all this, I'm not sure if the -9db are enough to protect my earing. Comparing them with the -15s, they look to have the same frequency respond in the mid and high frequencies.

Now I reproduced the frequency respond of both on my computer and compared them playing trance. The -9 sounds way better.

But with the real filters it must be different for sure... and I just don't know if -9 are enough if I stay in the club about 3 to 6 hours.

Anyone use the -9 ?

Used to be a graph showing it, but its been changed to text

Another issue to think about is the difference in attenuation consistency between the -9 and -15. If you look at the graph you see that -15 has a consistent attenuation across the frequency range and -9 has a higher attenuation as the frequency gets higher and higher. With an uneven attenuation, the quality of the music you hear may be affected by the earplugs and what you hear is not a true representation of the sound played thru the speakers. So while you're mixing, you may think that the sound is lacking in mid to high end and adjust the eq accordingly, but it's actually the earplugs thats changing the sound. Just a thought.

My earplugs are ready for pick up. It costed me 180 USD, I will pick them up this week and then post some pics.

yeah the -15 does have a flatter frequence response.

which ones did you get solisortus?

Does anyone know of non-online dealers that sell these? I checked the Guitar Center, they did not have them. They had only the basic type.
