shop at thrift stores/charity shops

inexpensive, unique, worn in and retro.

why pay $100 dollars for clothes at Hollister that you can buy at Goodwill for $5? It's funny how Hollister tries to make it look like the clothes they sell already have the crap beat out of them, they go for the grungy look, but hey: go to thrift stores and get it for much less! and plus you'll be the only one rockin' it. if you buy Hollister, you'll see 10 other people wearing that crap.

Bitterness? More like disgust and regret. You know the vast majority of the people who buy trendy gear do it in an attempt to fit in with their peers. We spend most of our lives trying to fit in, it's just as kids we tend to buy trendy clothes that are horribly over-priced due to their popularity. Younger kids are more susceptible to buying all these trendy clothes, because either their need to impress is so high or their self-esteem is so low or a combination of both makes them easy pickings for the clothing industry.
You still want to look good as you get older, but you don’t look to Ashlee Simpson or Hillary Duff for an indication of what you should wear.
Sorry if I offended you, Mr. UrbanOutfitter.

Right... So, you know, I often tell people I listen to trance, classical music, jazz, blues, etc... you know... to fit in with the rest of them. Because all of those things are so popular among teenagers...

Or maybe you can realize some of us, while still buying some of the clothes, don't let it overtake our lifestyle.

If anything, you're going with the crowd on judging anyone who wears trendy clothes as doing it to fit in. Anyone can do that, but how many people can realize some people might actually... *gasp* like the clothes!? Oh, wait, blasphemy, right?

First, we're talking about clothing not music. However, I'm in the same boat with you when it comes to music tastes.

Second, I never said all people buy clothes in a feeble attempt to fit in, just the majority.

And at this point in my life, nearing the good old late 20s, I don't have time to go along with many crowds, least of all the "let's-hate-A&F-clothing-wearers." My first post was just an expression of my relief to be out of the teen-bopper years where most of this takes place. Again sorry if I offended you, you're one of the few peeps that I notice has intelligent posts in these forums and I would bet you're even deeper in person.

for whatever reason you have a reason to dislike trendy clothing, im sorry, but some of us out there dress a certain way because we like to.

simple as that
