well the people that aren't allowed to drink still wanna go out and have fun, right? they'll just have to pay a huge cover charge to cover the losses in alcohol sales. they deserve it anyway, since they're losers who can't handle alcohol. or maybe they should just stay home and think about why they are so lame.

yeah, if you couldn't tell by the tone of my post, i was joking. :p

no. i used to club when i was 18/19 at this place in ft. lauderdale and i thought i was so grown up and cool, rolling and hanging out there. but now if i see little 18/19 girls doing the same thing, i'm like, "oh gawd, go home".

:stongue:

it's funny how grown up you THINK you are when you are in your teenage years, but then when you actually grow up in your 20's, you realize how immature you were.

well actually , i take it back. i don't think they should totally ban 18+ clubs, cuz i know it's tough to be 19 or 20 and not be able to party...i suppose if you REALLY don't like being around younger kids, then u just don't go to those clubs, like me.
dj_bas
yeah only problem is you get alot of retarded kids that come to 18+ clubs...i'm 20 and have a fake id for the time being. and alot of people i meet out think im 24 25..one girl said 28? was she ing drunk no way i look that old. anyway yeah...i dont like the 18+ clubs just cuz they bring retards...which is unfortunate for the ones, myself included, that aren't retarded

it may sound weird, but i really think there is a huge maturity gap between 18 and say, 22 or 23. i think in those few years, you really find yourself and mature a lot. there are exceptions though. i was pretty mature for my age in high school, but still immature.

i recently met this really cool chick from NYC (she's dating my bf's friend) and she goes to Fordham and parties with us at clubs and even does yayo, but she's not like a snobby cokehead, she's really cool...anyway, i almost when she told me she was 19! it was crazy. i'm 23 and i could have sworn she was at least my age. anyway she is one of closest friends now, we talk all the time and she's coming for wmc.
UWM
I would never even think of doing some of the I did when I was 18-20 now.
Slylee
me too. i was more of a druggie/partier my senior year of high school and the year after. i would roll and go to parties and get ripped for 24 hours and not come home... i think that's when my mom got all her gray hairs. lol

i UNDERSTAND it...i don't necessarily support it. hell the night that we usually go clubbing at is a 18+ night and i've never felt uncomfortable there...we have a good time.

do i think the drinking age should be lowered? probably...doesn't make any difference to me... i was drinking at that age...kids are gonna do what they want.

i just meant that if i'm out looking to meet people...it'd be nice to mingle in your own age brackets...just like i'm not gonna go cruise into a bar thats like got a bunch of 30+ year olds hanging out after work...

ps. no i wasn't that imature in high school...but i've seen evidence to support my assumptions :p

i really really understand him. and i guess that counts, me being 17 and all. i've been (illegally, basically) clubbing since i was 14. apparently, i look old enough to get through the door, and i've made enough friends in the club to not let my age be a hassle.

i'm in grade 11. i remember on a recent occasion, i was walking into the club ('the', as unfortunately, there is only one EDM club in this country, 21+ for males, 18+ for females, legal drinking age is 18, not that anyone gives a here) and i saw some seniors from my school from affar. it reaaaallly peeved me. i was all worked up, thinking about these 'kiddies' in my spot. then i remembered they're older than i am :p

but yes, these people (came in a large group) did deter the general atmosphere that night. they were blowing whistles, humping eachother and idiotically glowsticking all over the place, to James Zabiela might i add (i wanted to shoot them). i even caught one of them giving me some sort of look - as if to denote that i did not belong, yet they did, at a club they've never been at, yet i've been a regular for 3 years.

if the electronic music movement stays as fashionable as it now is - it seems to be the new 'thing' here right now - soon we'll have more hordes of these, eventually coming into conflict with themselves and engaging in those retarded drunken fights, the 'you stole my girl' crap and tall that other jazz teenage sitcoms are made of.

moral of the story = age is not necessarily a determining factor in lameness... but it is a good guideline... :p

luckily, most of the outdoor events i like to go to aren't mainstream enough for them. i'd go postal if i bumped into one of them mofo's when i see Richie Hawtin...
dj_bas
you put it quite well inertia...age clearly doesn't have anything to do with your actual maturity state. but yeah it is a good basis..like i said alot of people are quite shocked when i tell them i've been getting into clubs with a fake id...something along the lines of

"what? are you serious? no way let me see"

but yeah only 2 more months to go till im 21 :) so id ont care anymore har har!

Yeah, I think that's a lot of the problem.

In Europe (in a lot of places at least) the drinking age is 16, and kids drink wine and such at dinner well before then... they drink a lot more, yet they have a much lower rate of alcoholism.

Seriously, the whole 21 to drink thing in this country is absurd. Us 18 year olds can buy cigarettes, get credit, loans, purchase houses, go get killed in some war (potentially having been forced to fight).... we are fully legal adults in every way, except we can't buy ourselves a drink.

If lawmakers who support the 21 to drink age actually think that it's going to stop us from drinking, they're just fooling themselves. I've been drinking socially since I was 17, and I will continue to do so. It's easy as hell to just get a 21+ buddy to go buy you a few cases of beer or liquor for you.

I think the only reason clubs are pushing the 21+ to enter thing, is because a) Stupid laws (like those we have in Atlanta) force them to, or b) They want to maximize profit from drink sales. To be fair, there are a lot of mature 18 year olds, and a lot of immature 21 year olds. I'm a legal adult, so why shouldn't I be able to come into a club and dance to some music just because of some archaic drinking age law?
