State'01 Winner???

Hmm, I just went to the Sonic State website and this is what I saw.
Since I am one of the winners, what is your opinion. Was I ripped off??? Or does everything seems to be fair?
Also it seemed that the responsibility was on me all night to run around and look for Nick. I felt like I was beggin for everything. I had to ask him for the CD, I had to ask him to see Armin on stage. I mean it would make since that I was treated like a winner.
>Okay everyone we have finally drawn the winners of our State 01
>VIP Contest. These lucky people will receive the following and much
>more:
> - an autographed record of Orkidea's Wintergalactic Mix of Flight 643
hmm, never got anything like that. The only thing I got was a mix CD by Orkidea from 2000. With a lot of dated tracks, still a nice mix though. It was also autographed
> - VIP entrance into State 01 with backstage access all night.
Backstage? I got to go to the VIP bar, and went upstairs for like 1 min to get the Orkidea Mix CD!
> - a chance to go to Lunch/Dinner with Orkidea, Ian Ossia, and Armin Van Buuren on Saturday.
Nick told me about this. And than he mentioned that I was gonna go to a dinner with Armin. But than at the end of the night he said that there isn't going to be a dinner. But now I remember that at the Afterparty he told me that he had dinner with them. Weird?
> - VIP Entrance to the After-Party on Sunday with the headliners.
Yes I did get a VIP pass to the After-Party
> - 2 complimentary beverages at the State 01 event
hmm, they either forgot or just decided not to give me anything, I never got anything
> - and much more
Last night at the afterparty I had a good talk with Andree and he had seemed to promise me to send something. Nick also told me that Armin wanted to send me something as well.
I don't mean to bitch about this.
But to take a picture with Armin I could have just waited till he came off, a lot of people took a picture with him. VIP pass, I could have gotten that just by entering the contest and not even winning anything, I could have still gotten into the After-Party. As for autographs, I would have had just as much luck getting autographs from Armin and Orkidea. Everyone was just walking up to Armin at the end of the night I could have gotten an autograph easily. As for Orkidea, I did actually walk up to him, and ask him for an autograph because I forgot to get one during the conversation at the bar.
The only things that I really got out of the contest was the CD from Orkidea (2000). I got to talk to Orkidea, I had to aproach him my self, even though I was introduced to him by Nick, I could have just walked up to him my self, when he was just walking around the main room.
So really all I got was a crappy CD with outdated tracks. I could have had just as much success downloading one of Orkidea's sets from Radio Unity.
I guess I just wanted to share my excitment with eveyone, but instead I just feel like I was cheated out of my winings.:( |

I think the fault lies in what Nick (the promoter) promised to dish out. However on the other side of the spectrum you did seem to get treated pretty good. I'm surprised you did stuff like wait for Nick. I would of known right away that he was too busy for like that. It's not that you weren't a priority, it's just that stuff happens the night of which can't be predicted. And from what I remember I'm sure a lot of backstage bull was happening. Some obvious/visible examples are the time slots and the vestax decks.
I'm not sure why he promised all the stuff, he must of had it previous then got hectic. Those boys are great promoters man, don't let it get to ya like this. The night was incredible. :D

| I know you were pumped about that whole prize package, who wouldn't be, but you gotta see things from the promoters perspective as well, cause things didn't go well for them either. They put up massive $$$ to please everyone that attends. Sometimes they make a bit of money, and in this case, sometimes they don't. I'd be happy enough just getting free entry and VIP access. The reason you didin't get your priizes wasn't really about the money anyways, it's about the unpredictability of how a party is going to run and having to deal with that. |

I saw your face, the night didn't seemed to be yours again Trancearmada. U were said all night...The evening was screwd up at Tiesto and that night again...What da, I think this is all done in this damn stupid Canadian way again, this guys don't know how to entertain ppl who deserve it, damn. All they know is how to pack bucks in to their pockets.
It uis like if u're buying a car at the dealership, they will tell u how it pulls, how it runs, how awesome it is to drive it, but when u sit down in it, the sits are uncomfortable, stereo sucks, no cupholder and lots of other . This is Canadian way to do things. I hate it, this is all spagetti on the ears of the ppl. Bull! I am sorry for you TRANCEARMADA. That night u looked more like a promoter, u get all of us together, u gave us stick papers so we can put our names on, .....and there u go.......
Eto vsyo eta yobanaya Kanada, v nei nikogda pochelovecheski nichego ne zdelayut! Lyuudi tolko za svoyu shkuru ubivayutsya... |

the party was great, the promoters as well. I won the contest, came to TO from quebec, the music was so good!!! I didnt get the CD, but i want the live set of Armin for sure.
was a bit disapointed when the lights went on... was only 6h30...
from far the best set i've heard in a party! tiesto was good, but armin was just incredible... never heard as good!
was a great party!!
i was suprised of one thing... i think most of the people were drunk... not lots of drugs...
it was a great experience of one night in TO!!! ill be back for sure! |

1) Not giving out the prizes was not about saving money. If they wanted to save money then they wouldn't have given you guys free access to the party.
2) I heard they lost 20 grand on this party.
3) A lot of the things that happened or couldn't happen were probably for reasons beyond the promoters' control. Take meeting Armin for instance. He arrived at the party late, hence no VIP pregame chat. When the decks started messing up on him Armin got in a pretty pissy mood, so I don't think Nick or Andre would want to send people into the booth to have a few words while Armin is frustrated as hell with the decks. There's are just conclusions I'm drawing from what I saw happen at the party.
If the promoters weren't honest they should have been honest, that's all. If they knew they couldn't come through for you then they should have said so. Sometimes it's hard to tell the truth when it sucks, but it's a lot better that way in the end. |

They lost 20 grand? Wow I love the way rumours start. And I love the way all of a sudden everyone else won this contest. All it should of been was VIP passes. But the State got carried away and promised all this crap. :o
That Canadian comment was kind of out of line too? Respect?? I thought these promoters went way out of there way to deliver a great party. It's really too bad that politics has to shine through in everything. Now back to my paper, the joys of Canadian Federalism. Boo!

I know dude, I was just saying how funny it was that all of a sudden there is a ton of winners. Which could of been the problem in the first place. Some people thought it was just given to one person?! Meanwhile it was just VIP (which if you noticed half of the place had). I had it but wore inside my pocket, for some reason I was embarassed by it. |

Armada my man, I can understand your frustration when you were expecting this whole list of things that were promissed, but don't you think you're being a little harsh? I mean, you got in for free (which you had not expected) and a few other perks. Sure, would have been nice if expectations had not been raised that way, or if they had leveled with you at the start of the night, but I'm sure what you didn't get was not a "rip-off", perhaps just a little disorganisation and bad luck on the night? I'm sure the sonic-state boys will be a little more careful with any promises in the future, that's all.
Mandrick_V, you really gotta tone it down man. The comment you made about "the Canadian way" of doing things is at best wrong, and at worst plain ignorant, maybe even racist. Yep, I mean that. Now, I consider you a friend on this site, so don't get offended, I'm just trying to make you aware of how you're sounding. I'm an immigrant myself and I've lived in three different continents, and I assure you it is NOT the Canadian way to rip people off any more than anywhere else, in fact much less. You should be a little more sensitive in making comments like that, even if you're not enjoying your life here as much as back home. Been there man, it'll change.
Now, admittedly, there is a definite tendency in North America to advertise falsely (90% OFF!!! Buy one, get 300 free, etc, etc) but I really don't think this was the case here at all. I think all and all we should all be grateful to the sonic-state boys for throwing the best damn party of the year. Period.
By the way, the fact that trancearmada was handing out name tags all night was his own initiative (as far as I know) and I for one am very grateful as it allowed me to meet at least 20 of you I hadn't met before. Awesome!! |
