I know there has been alot of confusion with the way your allowed to mix your compilation.

So here for those still unsure what to use, is a little guide as to what is allowed, and whats not.

MP3 mixing consists of the competitor, having a selection of MP3 on his/her PC. The MP3's are then used in a program and mixed, back to back to make a LONG 60-80 minute mix.

This is basically an Audio CD size file.

You CAN pre-prepare your tracks, e.g normalize, edit or remix each track. There is nothing stopping you doing this, as you are still using the track and mixing it into another at a later stage.

You CAN transfer a tune you have on Vinyl, CD, Tape, other media onto your PC and use it.

REAL-TIME means just that, you can practice as much as you like, but the final mix you submit will be done in one mixing session.

WAV editors are fine for preparing your tracks but NOT usable for the actual mixing stage.

The easiest way to describe it, is MIX the same as a live DJ in a club, using software instead of Decks or CD drives.

Dj Sphere earlier posted some different programs usable. FINAL SCRATCH is not permitted as it almost does it all for you, hence showing the DJ to not be using sheer talent.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I agree with you except one thing: djs can normalize and remix their tracks but that's it, no more editing. Don't eq them, don't pitch them or any other thinks like that. You must mix them as they are.

It's better if you don't edit any of the files you use.

Sphere, I can see what you mean - but if a competitor has a track thats got poor levels, surely it makes sense to clean it up and raise the levels accordingly?

Much better end result, which must only be done BEFORE the mix itself?

Glad to help any time matey :)
