diginut... i don't even know what to say... you were there a few weeks ago and are trying to argue that I made wild accusations????
Take a look at the roll call threads for Guv special events... then compare those threads with "I hate Guv" threads... i guarantee you will find many, many similar faces.
SlyGuy, as far as not liking Mark Oliver... it may be correct that his sounds can be heard on programs like essential mix, but when you consider that he's the only DJ in Toronto, maybe even Canada to have those records when he gets them says a lot. He was (not sure if still is) part of the Balance Record pool which is one of the most difficult to become a part of in the world. If you just don't like his sound, again that's cool... your opinion. I'm curious to know what about it you don't like. |

Yes, because you claim that we show up for "every big trance DJ" they bring in. That was my second time at the place in 8 months, I wasn't even interested in the DJ they had, was just stressed out from the week before and had nothing else to do. Don't tell me you've never resorted to doing something you don't really like just because there's nothing better to do?
My presence there on ONE Saturday night does not give credence to your argument. As for your "guarantee" that there will be many "similar faces" on the complaints and roll calls, why don't you actually back up your allegations instead of trying to lay that burden of proof on us? |

And I understand that completely. I just take umbrage to the seemingly endless flow of allegations that everyone (including myself, obviously) bashes it and then keeps going back, as if we're some kind of love-sick schoolgirl stuck in an abusive relationship.
If you went to a restaurant and the food was REALLY lousy, and later on you heard people talking about going to that restaurant, it would be far from pointless or rude to advise them that it's not such a great place. It's the same with the Guvernment. It's not as though I'm in this attend-sulk-complain cycle - I just speak from previous bad experiences there, and *IF* I do go then I usually don't complain (did you see me complain after Scott Bond? No!).
It's the same as this crap with Tiesto - "oh, you all bash him, but you all go to see him". Well you bash Tiesto plenty, Jay - would you go to see him? I didn't think so. It's the exact same argument. End of discussion. |

| guys... ease off with the arguments / discussions, the first 3 pages were funny as hell and lets just leave it there. those negative things of guv are true but come on, it's funny to read it all. i go there once every 2-3 months and i can always have fun and enjoy myself with my friends. whatever cracked out asians or whatever are not there to ruin your night, i get elbow too but i understand everyone is just as frustrated as i am when its so packed, i try to be more tolerant and most of the times, even the most drugged out people would say sorry (with exceptions of course) and you probably just don't notice. hopefully, everyone will have fun next thursday : ) |

It's so easy for you to make fun of Guvernment. Funniest thing is, you all show up for every event when one of your beloved trance DJ's is a special guest. And imagine the s*it storm that would fly if anyone said a negative word about Tiesto or Corsten or Armin.
Why do you insist on badmouthing the club that put Toronto on the international map. Plain and simple, it is the only club in North America that has maintained it's excelence for 9 years now. If you don't like it, that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. But why the negativity? If you're on the "I hate Guv" bandwagon, then you're really just a jackass. If you make fun of it, then back it up by not going. But that won't happen, because as soon as tiesto gets booked again, you'll all be there.

Ok, it's 5 o'clock so i might come off a little rude, but WTF are you talking about ? People here talk smack about the Guv, the same way they talk smack about Trance. It's called freedom of speech. To you maybe the Guv is this temple to be worshipped, for the rest of us it's just a massive building whose sole purpose is to take our money and provide a venue to see some outstanding talent. It's not a shrine or a monument to be treated with reverence. You wanna be a guv groupie ,fine...don't expect the rest of us to hop on and ride the Guv's dick just cause "OMG they throws like the biggest Massifs guy !".
The Toronto scene will survive just fine without the Guv cause no single club makes up the scene. Clubs get shut down all the time. People cry about it for a second and move on...the same will happen if the Guv ever closes it's door. I'm sick of rosy eyed clubbers who think that a damn structure somehow defines the scene -- either your naive or just plain stupid. Decide which.
Furthermore, this ain't a Guv fansite. We talk about a range of things here, so to say we constantly bash the guv just tells me you don't read this forum very often. Jayx1 (another groupie) bashes the current government of Canada on a more consistent basis then all the guv-bashers combined...and yet when we speak the truth about his beloved former employer suddenly he's full of good advice like 'if you don't like it, don't go there'.
Hey jay -- here's some friendly advice from a non-canadian. Don't like what you see happening in a society which elected the goverment via a DEMOCRATIC process ? Pack your bags and hop onto the next plane to Argentina -- otherwise STFU and stick to posting whinny threads about how much YOUR life will suck once women have to pay the same for a haircut as men.
99% of the replies in this thread were meant to be humourous -- it's obvious to me now that the groupies can't handle a joke. :haha: |

LOL how im considered a "groupie" because i dont happen to think complaints about certain venues are justified.
God forbid anybody were to ever talk smack about Boa around here. Talk about groupyism.
When someone from another city asks about a club and all he gets are jaded raver responses of course people are going to speak up and defend the place. Why? because it simply isnt the hell on earth that everyone makes it out to be. |

Or better yet, you can stop worrying so much about what other people post and STFU. Seriously you call me predictable. Every single time i see you online you are whining about something ive posted. The ignore button is a useful tool in these cases ;)
I know certain people around here get frustrated when they cant control the TOTA agenda but that's just the way life goes. |

I don't like mark oliver because I feel like he's little more than a warm-up DJ. I used to work at the guv, and was able to hear him from week to week, and it seemed as tho he'd simply play to the style of the headline DJ. Or on nights when he was going solo, he'd just play the style of music that was 'flavour of the month' [which was progressive house/trance at the time]. Instead of focusing on developing his own unique sound, it seemed as tho his was borrowed from whoever was popular at the time. To me a really great DJ should bring an experience to the listener, bringing their own flair to their sets. Sean Miller has a sleazy dirty groove to his sets, Addy has pounding tribal, and Matty Colridge [if NYE is any example] has a very unique acid style. I don't get that kind of feel from a mark oliver set.
Oh, and I used to be one of the people who'd bash the guv and continue to go because I had no choice. Now I have a choice, and don't bash for the most part, but instead just choose not to go. |

Hey, at least they know how to genuinely enjoy the experience, in terms of what it's rEally about :D
Either way, guv is pretty nice. I hate the fact that the main room is just PACKED, but whatever, dance away, have a smoke, take a half hour walk to the KH, calm down, breathe, then go back in. |

The only legitimate complaint I've heard so far is about overcrowding, I agree that will ruin your night if you're packed and can't move and are overheated. I guess the line for the coat check gets ridiculous sometimes also.
But the Guv is still an awesome place to party at, considering the DJ's they're pulling in there, the sound system, what I think is a pretty cool mix of people, I mean I rarely see fights or anyone trying to start , if you have a problem with people because of who they are while they're minding their own business then that's your problem really. You'll find the same thing going to somewhere like System or Viva so get used to it :) To me it's a huge part of the Toronto scene, I mean we've seen alot of DJ's say its one of their favorite places, although they're saying that from up in their lux dj booths, and not trying to survive down in pit :D |
