i have no ing sympathy for drunk drivers in the slightest. People may campaign against speeding drivers (31 mph in a 30 mph zone is considered speeding ) and want more speed cameras, but that isn't going to catch a drunk driver is it?

Anyhow, with drunk drivers, i have no sympathy as one of my very good friends, on the day she was enrolling for uni nearly 3 years ago, she was already in london and her mother was driving on the way to london from wales. It just so happened that on that same day, some nutter decided to get absolutely lashed and try and commit suicide by driving the wrong way down the motorway.

He happened to drive into my friends mums car, head on at about 80 mph, with her mum doing the same speed as well.

She didn't die, but very nearly did. Her arms and legs were pretty ed up and she is still having operations to this day to restore nerve function and skin grafts to cover the scars. She is almost disabled and can't work any more (used to be a top pharmaceutical rep in wales earning upwards of 150k a year)

So yeah, if any of my mates had been drinking quite a lot and wanted to drive home i would take the keys off them and send them home in a cab. i dont want them killing someone else/themselves. Nor would i get in the car with them.

There is some campaign on the internet about this woman who was hit by a drunk driver and her car burst into fire and she got like 90% 1st degree burns or something, and she survived. She used to be a pretty girl, but after the accident she has been horribly disfigured for life :( it is stories like that that make you think twice.

I would have kicked both your friends and your arse's for being so stupid in the 1st place

i know that i am known for being this party girl, and i wont deny it...lol but i have no tolerance for drinking and driving. it pisses me off more than anything. i used to drive after drinking a few years back and i had that "it will never happen to me" mentality, but i've matured a lot and now i am that annoying friend who will sit there and argue with my friends in front of the valet or outside a club for as long as it takes until they give in and let me drive, or take a cab home. it's just not worth it. your life could be over in the blink of an eye and u are also putting innocent people at risk.

my boyfriend has had a DUI and he's wrecked his car more than once (not badly, but still) because he was wasted and drove home...i think he is finally starting to realize how dumb and selfish it is to drink and drive. i think he's also tired of us getting in major arguments after he drinks and drives, so he's calmed down a lot more now. he didn't really learn his lession w/ the DUI because he refused the breath test and his boss paid for an expensive lawyer and he got off, but i made sure to always remind him that he was still a jerk to do that. lol i also swore to god that if he continues to drink heavily and drive, that i would leave him. so far so good!

i am very glad to hear that you guys are ok. this was a blessing in disguise, trust me!! if your friend continues with this behavior after that, then he is a ing moron and deserves jail time next time he pulls that .

theres a difference between being too drunk to drive and drinking and driving. I know my limits.

First of all, just because YOU know your limit, doesn’t mean it’s ok.

If you are past the legal limit (even if you aren’t DRUNK and can totally function), and you get into an accident w/ a car full of people and it was THEIR fault, guess what? Guess who still gets blamed because he/she shouldn’t have been on the road in the first place? Exactly...Don’t be ignorant.

Wait, wait... you were a passenger in a car driven by a drunk person?

I dont' see where you are going with this. ur saying the law will blame the innocent person cause they were drinking alcohol? I am sure we can both come up with thousands of hypothetical scenarios where the innocent drunk is pinned with an accident, and thousands more of the opposite, so i dunno what else to say.

plus I wasnt saying driving after drinking is ok for everyone, YOU need to find your limit like I have in order to think about driving afterwards. Seriously, ive seen people freak out cause a person had one beer and wanted to drive. I hope you are not that staunch of a supporter of no drinking and driving...

what i'm saying is...

person A. is over the legal limit

person A. feels fine though and "knows his limit" so he decides he's ok to drive home.

person A. is driving pretty normal, but then person B. comes along and isn't really paying attention and runs through a stop sign, crashing into person A.

person B. isn't drunk or anything

person A. will get arrested and everything will be admissable in court before a jury.

now who do you think the jury is going to side with?

person B. who wasn't drunk at all? or person A. who shouldn't have been on the road to begin with because he was drinking.

*EDIT*

i just asked my co-worker about it because her husband is a cop and she said the person who was past the legal limit (whether or not THEY felt they were drunk doesn't matter) will get cited for the accident...AND there is a huge possibility that the drunk person's insurance company will deny coverage because they shouldn't have been driving to begin with, so they might stuck with a HUGE bill for damage and medical bills.

like I said, you can make a million scenarios, the law has its guidelines and if it comes down to it (depending on the actual bac) they might side with teh sober.

however your example is flawed, if you are a cop arriving to an accident at a 4 way stop, you see one car that is heavily damaged on the side, who do you think ran the stop sign?
