canada is a great country guys, but if you prefer european style of living, if you feel european, you will feel in canada, more like in the states than in europe. nothing against it, just not my thing ;) |

I dunno what apartments are like in the rest of Europe, but the ones in Poland, especially Warsaw, are way better than the crap here. |

as (i think) the only person who is in europe to post, ill say that being in the EU isnt as sweet as it sounds. you'll find the richer your country is, the more you put into the EU, and the less u get out.
The UK currently gets 1/3 of what it puts into the EU. This is to fund the poorer countries such as poland.
Once in the EU, any member of the EU has as much right to a job in your country as you do, but while the freedom to work in any EU country sounds nice, it has its negative side. Once a poorer country, like Poland who recently joined the EU themselves, then pile into the UK and take up all the free jobs because companies can pay them less, thus leaving the home grown people going without. This hasnt happened on a massive scale but ive seen it on a small scale, and this is what some of the politicians moan about.
Law is another right pain in the ass. Once u join the EU, u kinda sign away ur right to make ur own law, because once u do, if someone doesnt like it they take it to the european courts which normally end up overturning it, thus leaving urselves with no feel of authority in ur own country.
theres many things about europe which are e. in the UK we actually have politicial parties whose soul purpose is to get the UK out of europe. |

it sounds as if other people's standard of living is being raised at the expense of yours ..

it is. with no disrespect to lesser advanced countries such as Poland, but what exactly do they have to offer the EU? a poor economy, theres not hundreds of free jobs, and theyre not going to poor millions into the EU. so they join to reep the benefits of the monies spent by the richer nations.
That sounds like a snobbish theory, that u can only join the EU if you're advanced and rich, but its not. U wouldnt let someone into ur house if they didnt pay anything towards anything and just used everything you provided, but thats how the EU works. Britain, i cant remember the figures but takes out 1/3 of what it puts into the EU, we have our own issues here without fixing everyone elses too. |

a similar thing occurred here when Mexico was admitted into NAFTA, both Canada and the US feared jobs being lost as a result, but sometimes when you think about it, many of the jobs that ended up going there were jobs that should be going there. i don't know if the same applies in the EU, but i suppose that if the UK is economically more developed than say Poland, then citizens of the UK probably have access to higher standards of education and other R&D which would provide them with better job opporunities in those areas so other jobs that require less skill or expertise should essentially go to developing countries such as Poland which need them? I know this is a simplistic way of looking at it, but my impression was that was the whole idea behind the integration..?
