So you're prepared to classify someone as a tech-trance DJ because of one song they wrote 10 years ago?
DaveBegic
thats about as retarded as what everyone else has been saying tristain.. im not classing clarke as anything, im saying *that* particular track is what i would call tech trance.. not the 'tech trance' songs i hear come out these days.. ing read what i write first people thats all i ask

You might call it melodic-tech at times, but if tech-trance is trance with techy influences then this definitely isn't Holden.

Like Virginia said, Holden is pretty much a straight-up tech DJ these days and his sets seem to be a mix of Border Community stuff and some of the bigger minimal-tech tracks released from the past 12 months (ADJD - Believe and the Mayer mix of Superpitcher - Happiness have been in virtually every set he's played over the past 6 months). You'll also notice that his and Nathan Fake's tracks and remixes have often been played out more by tech DJs than prog or trance DJs and there's a reason for this - they are techy tracks. Find me a minimal-tech DJ (or even a harder techy DJ - like Luke Slater for instance) that hasn't played Sky Was Pink over the last 12 months, for instance...

He's a very unique DJ with a very unique sound, but I don't think you could classify anything he's ever done (except for some of his earlier productions, maybe - try DJ Remy - Backstabber (Ariene remix) for instance) as "tech-trance".

DJ Preach Tech Trance.

Only ever heard them play the harder side of techno - can they play with a trancier edge? With DJ Preach especially, I'd classify him along with guys like Sven Wittekind as DJs who play a sound more suited to people who have a secret desire to listen to hard-house but who are just to proud to admit it. Nothing played at 160bpm counts as "music" in my book... ;)

orrright whatabout Sven Vath?

Not anymore (when he's not playing tech these days he's playing electro), but some of his older stuff might be closer to the mark. He did play a lot of stuff with melody back in the day, but would you classify that as tech-trance (trance with techy influences) or just as melodic-tech?

If you're going to classify that sort of sound as tech-trance, then it's probably guys like Agoria and Joris Voorn that you should be talking about here (the latter especially plays a lot of stuff that fit right into one of your sets, Jules). But yeah, this whole thing about genre-classification can get pretty anal and a lot of it's subjective, so this is all just my interpretation obviously.
Breeze
sven vath rocks. (techno - electro)

who sed sigum and mark norman were tech-trance???

probably marco v is the closest to tech trance, that ive heard.
Light The Fuse

yeah alot of people go on about ,how they love tech trance but sometimes what they think tech trance is, is only just trance.

techno is better then trance.

disagree. there is good and bad trance, same goes to techno. i listened to both and each has its own strength/weaknesses.

muli
bit late to this but.

Sven Vath is mainly electro these days.

Anyways, a lot of techno has melody to it, just cause it has a melody dosn't make it tech trance.

Take this minimal techno track for example.

Mathew Jonson - Marionette

Hawtin played this in his recent tour and it tore the roof down, it has such an awesome minimal melody too it, but it dosn't mean it is trance, it is still a techno track.

Same goes for Bryan Zentz – D-Clash, another melodic techno track, but still not trance.

I think people hear a melody in a techno track and automatically think it is trance, but a lot of techno has melody too.

Mark Norman, Signum all that crap, that is NOT tech trance, it is just trance with a driving bassline, it dosn't even have much percussion to it.

Marco V is probably one of the only true tech trance DJs out there, but these days he is straying away from that.
