My dear TAs...here's my account of my WMC '05 memories. Warning...it's a bit on the long side...
March 23 2005 - Woke up at 5:00 AM, after only being able to sleep for 3 hours. I was so excited about leaving for Miami...I couldn't wait! I made it to Dulles for my Delta flight to Atlanta. The flight left at 07:30 AM, no problems whatsoever. There was a minor delay with my flight departing from Atlanta from Miami, as a result of the storms. I ended up arriving up in Miami at 12:45 PM. Half an hour late. No big deal. When I arrived at the Sheraton Biscayne Bay, my hotel room wasn't even ready. In the meantime, I enjoyed a good lunch at the Regatta Restaurant. There was nothing better than Argentine-style churrasco steak (mind you...a huge slab of steak), potatoes, and two 16 oz. pints of Guinness, after many hours of not having a decent meal! Finally my room was ready after 3 PM! I ended up sleeping for the better part of 4 hours. After shower and finally feeling recharged, I was ready for Club Spin! I hung out with Roslyn and Shiri at their hotel, then we all left to see Armin! It was my first time in South Beach...I was absolutely excited! We didn't make it to Spin till after 11 PM. I caught up with a few TAs and Glow board members (Vtec, Charlie, BitchboyNYC, Vlad, Janette, PvD Kid, Kasper, Joanna)...that was cool! The crowd at Spin was much friendlier than I expected. I loved hearing Remy once again...he was as bangin' as when I first saw last December @ GLOW! Armin's set was tight...at least from the hour and half that I heard! I only recall hearing Adagio For Strings (Ferry rmx). Unfortunately, the lack of ventilation was getting too much. Roslyn was not feeling well, and was doing worse than I was. Roslyn, Shiri, and I ended up going back to my hotel, then hung out with them at their hotel room till 6 AM. I had much more fun outside of Club Spin after all! In many ways I would consider my first night in Miami the best!
March 24 2004 - I ended up getting out of bed after 12 noon. The combination of Guiness, Stoli, and energy pills from the night before left me a little drained. I ended up going for late lunch at Bayside...time for a Cuban sandwich, a mojito, and a Cuban coffee. I felt much much better! I felt even better after visiting Sharkey's (a bar with 90 different bottled beers and 21 beers on tap) and realizing they had La Fin Du Monde. That's right...one of my favorite Belgian-style tripel ales! After a power nap and shower, it was time for dinner with Eddie, Jonathan, and Amanda at Regatta. Dinner took a little longer than expected but it was worth it! Eventually Eddie and I made to Space before midnight. I had no problems getting into the club. On the way into the main room, I caught up with Redeye. Once inside the main room, I was absolutely loving the tech-housey sounds of DJ Montana! I couldn't help but remember his bangin' set @ GLOW in September 2003! In the meantime I caught up with Brian, Charlie, Joey, Janette, Karma Girl and Kory. I even caught up with Johan Gielen and chatted with him for a little bit. Finally Tiesto took the decks after 1 AM. He started off great with some tech-house, then some housey sounds, and then some fluffy (and boring) sounds. For about an hour, Tiesto was REALLY losing me! Even though I only had only one drink @ Space (and plenty of water and energy drinks), I was feeling sleepy! The crowd was also getting on my nerves! It was not even 2 AM and I was considering leaving. Finally Tiesto threw down more tracks with a beat...and he regained my interest. I felt absolutely re-energized with the bangin' beats and with the gusts of cold fog being blasted from above! Then again, moving to the front center of the room was a better idea. Less idiots were wandering about, more people actually cared about the music, and there was better ventilation. As for the music...it kept getting better and better! Even though I didn't recognize the vast majority of Tiesto's set, I absolutely loved it! It turned out to be a much better set than when I saw him @ GLOW last February! I was also fascinated by the images of the Nyana symbol, as well as by the images of the infrared dancers when Tiesto dropped Just Be! During the last two or three hours I couldn't stop dancing! Next thing I remember is when Tiesto dropped Adagio For Strings...absolutely beautiful! Between the lights and the euphoria, it was nothing short of magical! I also remember seeing Brian, Charlie, Joey, Vlad, and Rounder before they left. I could've sworn I saw Rach and Trancebrat, but I wasn't sure it was them so I didn't say hello. In the meantime...Tiesto kept on tearing it up until he finished up after 6 AM! I was about to leave when I caught up with Janette, Karma Girl, and Kasper. Right after they left, I was pulled back to the main room. Sultan threw down some bangin' tribal housey remix of Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up! Wow...that was sick! I probably would've stayed for an hour of Sultan, if I hadn't been so sore and drenched in sweat. I took a cab back to the hotel, drank some water, collapsed on my bed, and passed out from exhaustion for the next 7 hours.
To be continued... |

Allright everyone...here's Part II...
March 25 2005 - I finally woke up after 1 PM. I was still so drained I didn't get out of bed till 3 PM. Considering how I was feeling, I decided against going out to South Beach or hitting any clubs for the day. Finally I started feeling better after shower and I ended up going for a walk out to Bayside Marketplace. I discovered a new favorite Cuban restaurant in Miami...Mambo Cafe! I was absolutely blown away by the appetizer...coconut shrimp with guava sauce! The main course (bistec a la palomilla) was excellent...grilled steak with garlic and onions, served up with plantains and rice and black beans! Last but not least...two mojitos! In case you're wondering...what the hell is a mojito? Take a good amount of Bacardi rum, crushed limes, and mint leaves...you have one of the best tropical drinks ever! I took my time enjoying the sunset over at Bayside and watching the crowd. After my late lunch/early dinner, I went back to my hotel for a few hours. After 10 PM, I realized I still wasn't in the mood to go clubbing, but couldn't bring myself to stay in. I went over to Sharkey's...had three La Fin Du Monde! I went back to Mambo Cafe, had two mojitos, then staggered back to the Sheraton after 1 AM.
March 26 2005 - I first woke up around 8 AM. Had a slight hangover. Went back to sleep for three more hours and felt much better. I went down to the pool for a little bit, called a few friends, and enjoyed the view of the Miami River over at the patio near the pool. I was ready to go after 2 PM, figured it would be better to have drinks and lunch before Ultra. I went back to Mambo Cafe...this time I had bistec empanizado (breaded steak) and croquetas, washed all that down with two mojitos.
As for Ultra...I stood in line to get into Bayfront Park for at least a half hour...maybe longer. In the meantime, I could hear Christopher Lawrence throwing down a bangin' hard trance set in the Amphitheather. Finally I get to the gates around 4:30 PM...only to be turned away by security guards because I had a camera. ******S!!!!! I had to walk ALL the way back to the hotel (about 20 minutes). By the time I returned to Bayfront and got through the line, it was almost 6 PM. I managed to miss out on Christopher Lawrence, Ferry Corsten, and Armin van Buuren. Damn it! I checked out the Carl Cox tent and the Danny Tenaglia tent...I was absolutely bored and moved on to the Amphitheater. By the time I made it there, Oakenfold was near the end of his set. I was quite impressed by Oakie's set...especially when he threw down PPK - Resurrection! If Oakie still played trance just like in the late '90s, instead of that boring progressive e from the last few years, I'd still hail Oakie as one of my favorites. Anyhow...it was time for Junkie XL! I had great memories of his rockin' set at Ultra '04! I wasn't disappointed! I just about died when he played some remix of Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence! I also loved hearing Red Pill Blue Pill and seeing the Matrix-style visuals on the screens! Junkie XL's last surprise was his remix of Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right...totally bangin'! Finally at 7:30 PM...it was time for Tiesto's 2 hour set!!!!! I wasn't too thrilled with Tiesto's set at Ultra '04. This time...it was a much better experience! I absolutely loved every minute of it! Tiesto's set was the perfect soundtrack for a lovely sunset! I will never forget seeing the sun going down and the full moon hanging over downtown Miami. In only two hours, Tiesto rocked me more than during his set at Space! I loved hearing Just Be and Olympic Flame! I died once again when Tiesto dropped Love Comes Again...followed by Traffic (Montana Edit)! I loved the visuals displayed for both of these tracks...the words Love and then Traffic flashing over and over again. There was one more surprise! I would get to hear one of my favorite tracks toward the very end...Adagio For Strings! IMO...Tiesto made Ultra so worth it for me! I stayed around for the first 15 minutes of PvD's set. However, I was too tired and thirsty to consider sticking around till the end. I went back over to Mambo Cafe for one mojito and then to Sharkey's for one La Fin Du Monde. I went back to the hotel, took a shower, then hung out for a bit at the patio before crashing at 02:00 AM.
March 27 2005 - Woke up at 06:00 AM. Time to catch the 08:30 AM flight back to DC. Before I checked out, I went back to the pool and admired the sunrise. The flight to Atlanta went smoothly. Unfortunately, the flight from Atlanta to DC took a little longer than expected. By the time I made it to Dulles and was finally home, I was absolutely exhausted. I'm still missing Miami and planning to go back next March...if not sooner!
I definitely needed to get away for a few days...thank God I had the chance!

Thank YOU. Space suxx but i'm going back to check this place out. I have to!!!!
and Tiesto started at 8.30 pm (8.30 -10.30)
and i forgot to mentioned that Tijs was throwing his vanyls and headsets to the crowd. I thought he was going to kill me with them. One guy caught one of the vanyls and tried to run because people were chasing him. hahaha. Insanity. |

i love space. i love miami. i love wmc.
despite a certain DJ being an arse, too many people in my hotel room AGAIN, being too drunk to get some ass, waiting in line at space for three hours, dancing with blisters on my feet, super slow and super ty food service AND not finding time for sleep....
I HAD A ING BLAST! Screw the lines, the drama, the issues... I was surrounded by my close friends, the sun was shining, the DJs were great and I had the time of my life. AGAIN.
In fact, I had SUCH A great time that I refused to leave the terrace on Sunday afternoon and missed my flight back to NYC. I had to book a one way flight for Monday night after spending the morning dancing my worries away to Ivano Bellini, Nic Fanciulli and Cedric Gervais on the terrace. Naturally my flight was delayed, I was cracked out and drooling in the airport, late for work the next day and am now sick as a dog. But in' A, mate, i'll do it all again~!
Best set/time Overall = Sander K & Nic Fanciulli on the Space Terrace
Best surprise set - Seb Fontaine on the terrace right before Morillo @ the Sublminal party
Best Vibe - Nikki Beach [IF you got in, i guess :( ]
Favorite DJ of WMC - Nic Fanciulli
Biggest Disappointment - Danny Howells and Danny Tenaglia
Worst Venue - State for Lawler - that was WAY TOO HOT
Best Daytime party - Groovanauts @ Fairwinds
Best Eatery - 11th Street Diner
My one and only real complaint goes to two shady florida TAs. You bitches know who you are and if I ever see you again I'm going to kick your stupid fake asses right off the terrace. You guys are crackhead losers and I hope you OD yourselves right out of the scene. It's addicts like yourselves who give the real fans a bad name. |

That annoyed me the most. The bar tenders/ food service in Miami were a joke. Everything is luke warm when you eat it b/c the food has been sitting there and the waiters are to busy chatting to get your meal.

If that is the diner on Collins and 11 st then I have to disagree. That food / service was poor. |
