the other half of it is i see the direction the progressive side is turning towards basically more and more experimentation. its already been happening with the blending of more housier and electro sounds and i think people are loving it. i think it'll continue to head in that direction, which is where i think i'll end up hehehe. i hate to say it but that's where the majority of the innovative and original sounding producers have been these last two years. experimenting with breaks, electro, house etc...really great stuff...

none of this is new though, soon people are going to say Goa is new as well when some djs start playing that more...

I think you hit the nail on the head.

well i know its been around a while, but i suppose it is becoming more mainstream then. and really what is coming out these days i think we can both agree isn't traditionally electro...its that old prog house feel with the borrowing of electro elements and sounds. i don't think it would be necessarily as popular if it was straight electro. i mean, a lot of traditional electro doesn't even appeal to me, but i love the blended elements in the music today...

oh and just another comment. the armin-esk trance sound...like i said i don't see it being saved, but i think it could, but it would really take an exceptional talent to do it. armin isn't gonna do it...it would truely take a very talented individual with great production skill and vision...then it could possibly have a chance. i just don't see any such prospects...

yea i agree with Eric Pyrdz and such, that funky electro house. I dont really like it much but ill listen to it. But I still wont say trance is evolving into that. Music as a whole imo is like a wave pool. Certin parts will go up and down, but they are basically always going to be there. It just depends on how much you want to look.

how i meant my post was not to suggest that trance is turning into that funky electro house sound...i think progressive is heading there...i think trance is like everyone else said heading towards the techier side of things.

Still don't see what you're getting at. I'm guessing you mean Hardwick hasn't moved on at all (which is my feeling - I think his sets and productions are decent, a little dull, and nothing more) but how this compares to John O'Callaghan's productions (or Jon O'Bir's, who I didn't mention - in fact, I haven't heard any of his stuff), I'm not sure. O'Callaghan has been around for a much shorter period of time and, for my money, has a much fresher sound, which is why I think of him as someone who's potentially moving the genre forward. Not a fair comparison, IMHO.

Want to eleborate again, preferably in more than a single sentence? ;)

the keyword that you said is nothing more.

They are all solid, but they will always be in the shadows of Armin, unless they come up with something creative.

so tell me if I have this right...

Harder better produced trance is going to Tech sounds.

as "progressive" aka watered down trance is taking the commercial route to mimmick Call on me, till that sound gets boring, then jump and migrate again.

I feel true progressive house & trance is moving in a hard techy phase as well, for examples, Descent & Inkfish.

Anyway you know in 3-4 years when people start complaining about the mono-toneness of "tech trance" some dj will start droping melodic stuff again...

True. I think a lot of the harder trance is already drawing heavy influence from psychadelic trance.
