Lawmakers in the US state of Florida have passed a bill that would allow a gun owner to shoot an attacker on the street in self-defence.
Under what its Republican sponsor calls the Stand Your Ground bill, gun licence holders over 21 years of age who feel threatened in public can shoot to protect themselves, without trying to escape first.
Florida Governor Jeb Bush says the bill is a good anti-crime measure.
Critics say it will boost gun sales and turn the state into something resembling the wild west. |

Thats insane, who decides what is 'threatening' now.
If you raise your voice in public at someone you may get shot. |

Had security guards or bystanders been armed at Ecole Polytechnique Montreal, Columbine, or Red Lake High School, dozens of people would still be alive. |

I'm confused on something...if you're over 21 (as the article says) that means you can carry your consealed weapon anywhere? I'd hate to work at the Kwik-E-Mart there, or a bank, or walk down the street (imagine asking somebody what time it is and they take it the wrong way).
The reason I ask, is because I know somebody here in Toronto who owns a handgun and takes it to a shooting range quite often. To do so, he has to register the route that he takes to the driving range from his home. If he deviates from that route, he is breaking the law/terms of his license and can be arrested for having a consealed weapon. |

That is because he lives in Canada...besides our own gun registry/laws are nothing to be proud of. It's a bigger joke/waist of money than the sponsorship scandal. In the sates you can legally carry a weapon anywhere I tink with the approproate license. |

Security guards- yes, bystanders- no.
