As much as I hate taking the bus/subway everyday, I'm sure as hell
glad that I don't own a car right now. Read in the newspaper that gas prices around the GTA were as high as 93.4. That is ing crazy and we're the lucky ones. Vancouver is 1.02 and Halifax is 1.03. How the hell do you pay over a dollar per litre. I saw a picture in today's Star where 20 years ago this time gas was 14.4, that's 14.4c per litre. You could get 8 litres out of a dollar back than and you can barely get a litre nowadays. |

Times change.
When I first came here, gas was ~0.335 or so.
When I first got my car just over 5 years ago, it would cost me just under $20 to fill-up.
Today, my average fill-up is ~$33.
I've thought about selling the car many times, but I've gotten spoiled by the convenience of having my own car - not having to worry about TTC strikes, waiting for the bus at 3am to get home (or paying $$$ for a taxi), leaving for work 15 minutes before I start, camping trips etc.
Then again, it ain't as bad as in Europe :) |

| montreal gas prices are so bad, i've spent so much money filling up there on the way back to Ottawa when i used to party there a lot, such a pain. I almost decided to fill a lil tank and put it in my trunk, so i wouldn't have to pay so much:whip: |

ya, always funny when north americans whine about gas prices when they in fact are like twice as high in europe! and europeans doesnt whine near as much as here, not really at all actually! hehe... but i guess you'r not as dependent on your car there (although you are not really in gta either?) |

| I think this whole thing is a sham, when i looked at the prices per barrel, there dropping. the prices are set buy buyer of the oil, i think all of these gas stations are ripping us right off, I have been going to the no name gas stations, which i find are a little cheaper, if we all did that then the big companies would have to come down in price to match the competition. The prices are already dropping per barrel, so why arent the gas stations? because they know people will pay that much, bunch of BS |

You have mass transit tho! stratford doesnt really, at least not in the areas outside of it!
I think high oil prices are good tho, it will lead to ppl getting more fuel concious and it will lead to alternative sources of fuel, we can already see it comming! |

its down a dollar(today).
but thats still $56 a barrel.
last year @ this time is was ~$36
if you dont think that your $1 a liter is a good price, go hybrid, diesel or public transport, which may have to jack price up again to keep up with rising gas costs.
and I know one reason we(albertans) whine is because ITS WHERE LOTS OF OIL COMES FROM! But we export it and pay chicago and NY prices on our natural gas, oil etc. because its more profitable for the parent company. |
