I get my dj equipment this tuesday!!! and I'm really excited! I was wondering what the perfect "first mix" would be!

I know I probably wont pull it off but if I have two tracks that work real well together I might! So I'm asking for your opinions of what two songs I should mix together.

Right now I'm thinking Cosmic gate - space exploration into..??? I dont know!!

please tell me what two songs are your favorite to mix into each other!

thanks

Took me about 2 months after I got my decks to pull of a little mix without all transitions trainwrecking.
If ya can pull it off the first time....well. You're good?:toothless

My favorite mix is the lost tribe - the gamemaster into robert miles - children..

it isn't an easy one, trying to sync them up without kick drums at the beginning of robert miles..

but you put it to the middle of the record, match it, then put it back and let the piano drop right after the last words in gamemaster..

I don't know if you have those songs though.

I dont know which version of "Exploration of Space" you have, but if it is one of the harder ones then try mixing some really hard trance w/ it like something by Hennes & Cold, or maybe Jan Driver. If you dont have any of those 2 then find a good hard progressive track with a nice solid tight bassline.

couple of my favs are Derler & Klitzing - Nuclear Device into Club Bizarre (DJ Scot Project Remix) and Iio - Rapture (Deep Dish Mix) into Taiko Silence. These two mixes if done well are awesome :D

My Favourite mix at the moment is Riva-who do you love now into gouryella walhalla, I always find it difficult to pull of but it sounds so good when its done right. And I know walhalla is old to but its so good i cant help myself.

I just about pulled my first ever mix off a few weeks back, i'd been messing around mixing for about half an hour, and decided to give it a proper go, and i did with some encouraging results
i mixed Barthezz - On the Move into Safri Duo - Played a Live (Nick Sentience mix), and the bongos sounded excellent when they came in
I was seriously impressed :D:D:D:D
but my stylus is busted and i can't afford to get a new one at the moment :(

word of advice. don't look at the BPM counter on your mixer when you are learning how to mix. Otherwise, whats gonna happen when you don't have a BPM counter? plus it's kind of cheating.

I disagree with that.
The BPM counter is a very useful tool, why neglect it?

If you're suddenly without a BPM counter, you can still mix by ear, but it's likely that the songs will match only for THAT part of the mix, and diverge a little later, meaning they will have slightly different BPM's.

I have a friend who DJ's without a BPM counter. He thinks that good mixing is when you get a part that matches, and then, as soon as the songs start diverging, you finish off the mix. I think that's wrong because the BPM's are, in reality, a little different. If they were the same this wouldn't happen. So I think the BPM counter is great if you have one -- use it to your advantage!
