Pop-punk is an oxymoron. The singer is spot on, they're rock 'n' roll, which is essentially commercial rock.

No. It is a combination of the sounds of pop music and punk music. And even real punk can be commercially successful. Nowhere is it lore [sic] that punk cannot be pop.

Pop Punk is the more poppy commercial lovey dovey Punk, a perfect example would be 'Busted'

*EDIT* basically pop punk is chart fodder. menat for those 12 year old 'Grebos'

I have to agree that punk music can be commercially accessible, but I tend to find a contradiction in concepts here. From what I've seen and read over the years, pop culture tends to dictate a following of trends, as seen by the fact that what may be immensely popular one day may be publicly denounced the next. Punk, however, is a rebellion against the concepts of social conformity and the dictation of what is "cool" that developed in the fifties and sixties and advocated individuality by means of being oneself as well as advocating egalitarianism.

EDIT: Stupid run on sentences. -_-;
Haak
they are not punk, they are
