is that really radagast?
I was wondering what happened to him, why the name change? These people switching names sure does get confusing, I like mine alot so I'm not gonna change it unless I embarass the hell out of myself, which does tend to happen from time to time.
If you are really radagast, can you put those weekly tune recomendations into your sig again?(I hope they will be easier to find than the others though)
| quote: | | Well after skimming through the posts since page three, I still haven't seen any convincing arguments as to why epic trance of today is different from the stuff DJ Sammy or Lasgo or Milk Inc, etc... produces. |
yikes, there is just no convincing somebody who doesnt alredy believe I guess, Its almost not worth arguing over.
Why do we need to convince anybody else that epic trance today is different from sammy or lasgo? The only reason I could think of for doing this is just to prevent kids from trying to play that in a set when we don't wanna hear it. I mean, alot of todays epic trance is cheesy poppy , like satelite, or jump the next train, or whatever, this stuff is hard to argue as different from pop music.
But there is more to epic trance than the cheesy pop variety that is so huge right now, I mean, we still have stuff like signum and PvD and others who aren't playing those pop trance tunes. Sure, the tunes those dudes play are more pop-like than the ones of the previous generation but are they as pop-like as sammy? I dont think this is something that can be 'proven', there is no convincing those who do not want to be convinced. It is just how trance works, you can't be hypnotized unless you want to be.
That and it is hard to quantify the differences between decent trance and sammy trance, they are not the same across all the tracks, but each comparison has some differences. I guess I can walk through a sample pair though, we can take something like Motorcycle - ATRC vs Sammy - Boys of Summer. First difference would be originality, ATRC is custom-written, boys of summer, a cheap cover of an 80's tune, most kids wanting the cheesy trance dont want 80's covers(but I do have to admit that the cover of 'ordinary world' was pretty fun). Then we have length, ATRC is like 7 mins, boys of summer, 3. Trance kids have small attention spans, but not small enough for 3 minute radio tunes. I understand ATRC has a radio edit, and boys of summer has an extended version, but even if we pair up the long versions or the short versions together, boys of summer is just extra verses of the song, ATRC has a rising and falling energy cycle to it, kids liking the epic trance want the shifting energy, not an extra verse of lyrics. Then we have the hypnotic pieces, ATRC depends more heavily on these for its appeal than does boys of summer, which instead uses the trancy elements as a sort of garnish on top of the pop tune elements, it has the original boys of summer melody with some cheap arpegiating thing on top of it. ATRC is almost the opposite, consisting of mostly of electronic G&D sounds with the pop elements acting as the secondary garnish for the tune, and a vocal about exstacy kicking in, which can hardly be as poppish a vocal as boys of summer.
Anyay, I doubt that one example will prove anything, but I dont really feel like I have anything to prove, I'll just like what I like for whatever reasons I can think of but not quite portray on the screen. There just comes a point where analyzing this stuff takes all the fun out of it, and we are flirting with that point right now, so I dont think I will go much farther with this trying to explain how they are different stuff. |

so you aren't the TA member formerly known as radagast?
he would recomend a different tune is his signature every week, but I havent seen him post recently, but maybe I'm just not searching enough.
I kinda like how this thred fell off the front page of the forum, kinda makes me fell like I had the last word, but here I am bringing it all back just to figure out what happened to ol radagast, sigh.
Anyway, I'm done arguing for now, no hard feelings to those who disagree, we'll save tune recomendations for another thread aiwendil. |

If you cant listen to tracks by groups like Lasgo, Ian Van Dahl, Dj Sammy without getting uptight I think you should go see a psychologist.
They have their place for a cheap uplifting kick. Commercilial stuff like that is what got me into trance and for that I respect. |
