hmmmm, just got a new computer in 1999/2000, my first system with a sound card and a decent set of speakers on it.
mp3's were getting popular, winamp had just turned into shareware.
Fired up my cracked copy of winamp, was curious one day as to what kind of music ppl were making out of electronic stuff, did a little bit of reading and found the word 'techno' in a few places which made me a bit curious. So I searched using good ol' altavista and found a site called www.technomusic.com, it was ran by the hyperreal dudes, had an mp3 download section of a bunch of tunes made by ameteurs, they were classified into techno, jungle, trance, house, electro, breakbeat, and a couple others. I downloaded one from every category, having no idea what any of those words meant, of all the songs, I like the one labeled as 'trance' the most.

| I bought Tranceport and Seven Ways while randomly walking around the electronic music section at a local music store. I had been listening to house and other electronic music before that, but that was the first time I really listened to trance. Hearing Xpander a year or so after that sealed the deal, and I haven't been the same since. |

| Sasha's Xpander on Napster...I never knew anything about real EDM music at the time, so I downloaded some stuff and I was hooked. So I went out and bought Tranceport 1 and Out There and Back as my first real releases. |

| probably 'Children' back in 96.. i heard it on the regular top 40 station... it was the first 'trance' track to make it to the billboard charts in the states.. |

Hmm, my bro influence me with some oakie essential sets and PVDs old albums around 98/99.
Seriously, without oakenfold, half of us wouldnt be listening to trance right now.
I hated anything that sounded "technoish" or "doof doof doof" back then. |

| You're probably right about that. I've noticed tons of people on here mention Tranceport as one of the first albums they ever bought. |

i guess i had heard of trance before, Robert Miles' Children among others, but my first real trance experience was when a friend got a cd named "Trance 2000" for Christmas. I copied it, got addicted. The cd featured some great tracks like Abnea - velvet oods, allure- no more tears, gouryella - tenshi, floyd - come together, delerium - silence & apoptygma berzerk with kathy's song.
I listened to that CD for several hours every day and many of the tracks are still huge personal favs today.In my opinion it is the best various artist trance cd of all time. |
