Zzz wow, I am at work reading this tryin to hold back the tears, (not doing very well. Although it is no where near the same I have an older sister who has Dyslexia as well as had tubes put in here ears and had to have casts on her legs as a baby to correct her legs. I am happy to say she is 28 years old and doing great. She had many set backs through education and peers. But my parents never turned there backs or gave up and did everything they could to make her happy and to help her succeed and just like they did for her Zzz I know you will do the same for your son.

I will pray for you, not just today but always.

Z If you need anything, anything at all, You know how to get in touch with me. If you need a ride somewhere or if you just need someone to lend an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on, I'm just a simple "hop on the LIE for 2 exits" and I'm right there babes. I can only imagine what you are going thru. I would be reacting the same way if my daughter was diagnosed with the same. You, your son, and your BF will be in my heart and prayers. You will get thru this, and all of us will be here to help out in anyway possible. Keep your head up and be strong. Think positive. We love you Z.

I am going through a very tough situation right now involving my first and only child. I just returned from speaking with his doctor.

I would like to share it with you since it seems that my only comfort or release comes from talking about it.

As most of you know I have a boy going on 5 years old this July. Over the course of his development we have noticed learning disablility and behavioral issues. We though that it would pass or he would grow out of it by being around other children to set an example. Unfortunately this is not the case.

My doctor has been monitoring his progress over the years and recently gave him tests to fill out his application for school and noticed some abnormal behavior and a delay in his progress. He thought that my son was hearing imparied and sent him for a specialized hearing test that he did not have to participate in since he seems fairly unresponsive.

He was carefully observed and we took notes on his behavior. After doing this we have done reasearch to find out that he has 8 out of 10 of the symptoms for something called "Angelmans Syndrome" which is similar to mild autism. The doctor told me he noticed things before but was unsure and did not want to mention them so sooner due to the fact that it is hard to deal with and many parents get quite defensive so he wanted to be absuletely sure. His hearing results came out fine and that is when the doctor knew something was wrong. I discussed his behavior with him and he is taking this issue very seriously.

He has refered me to a Pediatric Neurologist affiliated with NYU to run extensive testing to diagnose his condition. My son looks completely normal and from time to time acts like any other child, but at times his actions are disturbing. I am having a very hard time dealing with this and after talking to the doctor over the phone I just broke down and cried with my manager and was sent home for the day. I am a nervous wreck and for those of you that have children you can image how hard this can be. At this point I am just trying to relax and hope for the best.

I ask for your prayers for my son and my family to get us through this. If anyone has a similar situation they would like to share or any advice they can give me I would appreciate it.

I'm very sorry to hear about your son. I have an Autistic cousin that I am very close with. My Aunt and Uncle have alot of information on special therapies, diets, and etc which have done wonders with my cousin. If you would like I could ask them for some web sites and stuff gor you.

hey z,
you and your family are in my thoughts/prayers!
if you ever need any medical advice, i can ask some of my family members too (my dad is an internist and my uncle is a pediatrician). i know that may not be of much help, since they are in NJ, but you never know.
if you need someone to talk to any point, PM me and i'll give you my #.

::hugs::

I was also given a name of the doctor that helps with my cousin. DR. SEINGOLD and she is located in MAHOPAC/BREWSTER NY. My family live in philly and make the trip at least every other month to she her.

My cousin took part in the Secretin Therapy which did wonderful things for him. He also is giving Vitamin infusions, participates in Sensory learning programs, and like i said before he is on a special diet which is Diary, Wheat, and Glutin Free.

Tomorrow my Aunt is taking him after school to a new behavorial Program that she heard great things about, its a new and is his first time attending. I asked her for all the literature on it, so just let me know if you are interested and I'll send it to you.

You and your son are in my prayers. I hope this information helps.
