Hey Z, my heart goes out to both you and your handsome little boy. I don't know much about Autism other than the little bit that I've read, but what I do know is that doctors and psychiatrists always seem to give you the worst case scenarios. I had serious night terrors as a child (from about age 3 to age 8) and was tested for months on end because it got to the point where I refused to sleep and would often stay up until sunrise. They hooked me up to so many electrodes while they were studying my brainwaves and such that I probably looked like something out of a science fiction novel. Well, long story short - I was eventually able to take control of my dreams and have let a relatively normal life ever since. (if you can call me normal, that is ;))

At the time, the doctors made a wide array of diagnosis and of course put me on an even wider range of medications - which I eventually stopped after my parents realized that it really wasn't doing for me except curbing my interests and dulling my personality. I've never had any learning disabilities (the doctors said that I probably would) and even wound up being asked to look for a different elementary school because their curriculum was too easy for me and I was growing to be overly disruptive - mostly out of boredom.

So don't get too upset because your son may simply be disinterested in what he feels is boring or a waste of time - who knows. Only time can tell.

I was reading this article not too long ago and remembered that I had bookmarked it. Here's an article about someone with another minor form of autism (Asperger's Syndrome). Like many diseases of the mind, it could possibly be a blessing in disguise - you never know.

I'll be thinking about you two, and I'm sure you know by now that you have a whole community that is always here when you need to talk.

Hey Z,
Well, granted the situation sucks I honestly do believe that everything will turn out fine. If it's any consolation to you, my grandmother recently passed away but I found refuge in prayer and God. I'm not a born-again Christian or anything but I found that keeping an open dialogue with God (or whatever diety you believe in) really helped me get through my hard times. I'm sure that your son will be fine and that we will see a great many things from him in the future. He is in my prayers.

Hi! Zzz Im really sorry that this is happening to you,but i know everything will come out ok.;) As DR86 said, having an open dialogue with God is very important, because even though sometimes we forget about God, he NEVER forgets about us!And remember that he loves all of us no matter what.I will keep you in my prayers and I defenitely hope everything comes out ok.But everytime you feel you dont know what to do or just feel helpless, pray to God and he will ALWAYS listen to you and give you the comfort you need like nobody else would.Hope your son gets better;)

i know that it is a very difficult time to go through but you have to let your heart control yourself, not your mind...love your son everyday as much as possible..hes a very cute boy...hes lucky to have such a caring parent like yourself... i know how hard it is to see a little one in the family go through stuff like this, the only thing we can do is love them, pray everyday, and try to live life like you normally would. dont be afraid to keep in contact with us on his status..were always here for you! :toothless i wish i could help....
