So....the Dr. appointment was yesterday. He was diagnosed with PDD (Pervasive Development Disorder)which is a form of autism. At this point I have to make an appointment with the board of education for an evaluation for them to be able to determine what type of school he should be placed into. I also have to return to the doctor to get and EEG done on him. (It's where they hook up some wires to his head and monitor his brainwaves for about a half hour.) In addition he also need to get and MRI with he is going to have to be sedated for due to the the fact that he will most likely be uncooperative.
The Dr. was very nice she explained everything to me thoroughly and explained how we should handle him. So even made me feel a bit at ease by telling me some benefits of his condition.
She said she had no doubt that he is smart and that he is definetly on the upper part of the spectrum with his disorder, he just has trouble communicating his thoughts to us which is improving by the way. She recommended speach classes. She said that most kids with his condition rarely ever get into trouble when they get older and most are able to be caught up to speed and live normal lives. She said in the next few years as long as we get some type of early intervention he should be fine and no one would ever know that he has the condition. He will just have to learn differently than other students.
One of the bad things about his condition is that he displays inappropriate behaviour and is overly friendly and I mean to anyone. Which could be a bad thing because all the people he could be exposed to arent going to be good people so we will have to work with him more on that. |

Zzz I am glad to hear that about your son. Though he may have a few extra hurdles in the begining it seems hopefully that it will be okay. Be proud of yourselves that you caught it soon it seems that will make all the difference. You are always in my thoughts and I wish you and your son the best of luck.
Its nice to hear a positive tone in your voice :D :D |

Here is the latest update.......
My son went through all of the evaluations by the Board of Ed. He will be placed in regular school but in a Special Education class of half disabled children and half normal children.
The student to teach ratio in the class is 6 students to 1 teacher. He will have a 1 on 1 paraprofessional assigned to him for the first 6 months until he is fully adjusted.
On another note I recently found out that vacinations given out from the years on 1989 through 2003 may be the cause of his condition. Many statistics and studies show that those vaccines contained Thimerosol (Mercury) and the increase of cases of autism overflowed after that. The percentile for children born between those times with autism is 1 out of 6 children. Other contries that had no previous cases of autism began to arrise with it once we started importing our vaccines to other countries. Its all too fishy but I am getting my sons mercury levels tested and I am adding my sons name to the class action law suit that is already in progress in many countries.
If mercury poisoning is in fact one of the causes there is a detoxification method (since mercury never leaves your system) with a chance of 20-80% recovery however it may cause liver damager in children as young as my son so I will have to weigh the pro's and the con's on that once that descision is presented.
Im already pretty pissed about finding that out but the more I look into it the more it seems to be true. If the FDA or these pharacutecals companies in fact damaged so many of america's children a law suit certainly is not enough retribution. I wanna get the out of the US already :( |

+1.... & all that is just the tip of the iceberg. the government doesn't give a about risking our lives for anything it sees that could advance its political standing. god only knows for what twisted reason there was mercury in the vaccine your son and thousands of others took. |

Hey Zzz.....thanks for the update we have had you in our hearts and it is nice to hear that there is some positve that's have been made for you and your son. The school and Board of Ed actually seem to be doing the right thing. On the other side that is awful the reason as to why your son has thi condition. Here you thought you where helping him, and you where but in the long run it hurt him :( through no fault of your own.
Best of luck with the lawsuit.....stick it to the in man!!!!!! (for real) bring his ass down, whatever I can do to help!!! let me know |

I'd like to wish you the best of luck with your son. Hopefully, this is something that with the proper attention, he'll be able to overcome.
Regarding the part about mercury poisoning, FDA, and wanting to get out of this country, let me just say that people should remember stories like this when government officials are advocating caps on medical liability verdicts. It's not possible to ensure that every drug and medical product is safe for EVERY person to use, but the resulting damage that occurs does have financial and emotional costs that lawmakers would like to assess on common citizens and not the companies that create these products and doctors that implement them.
And to think that Bush doesn't want to import drugs from Canada because "we don't know if they're safe." Looks like we're doing a good job of watching our products in the US, too. |
