Who all has Live Strong bracelets? I wanted one for awhile, but I thought you could only get them in the States. My mom found a store in Windsor that has them so I got one last week.
Now this may be a silly question...but I'm a silly girl ...do you take your bracelet off when you shower? I do. |

I see people wearing these all the time. Its too bad that some people only buy them for the fashion & popularity factor, instead of its original intent. I bet half the people out there who are wearing them, dont even know what it represents.
What is also sad, is that there are websites out there who are selling them purely for profit.
I think there was another thread like this a month or two ago... Zabiela is known to sport one?? |

The only people who I know that wear them are either triathletes or have some connection to cancer...yellow would look ugly on a brown guy (IMHO) but my aunt passed away from the disease a few years ago so I've just been looking for a place to buy it for the charity factor...(okay maybe a bit for the kewlness, too! :)) Nike store's always sold out :(
EDIT:
Another applicable reason I can think of is because of the message for TOTAs: DANCE STRONG...Lisa, it would be so appropriate for you to be wearing that at the next rave!!! :) (not that I've seen you dance...but you seem very energetic!) |

There are numerous websites where they're available. If you're looking for authenticity, purchase with caution. Here are some I found:
http://www.nike.com/wearyellow/index_f.html
http://www.yellowrubber.net/
http://www.collectorsparadise.com/bracelets.html
http://store.videogamecentral.com/listbrlarfob.html
To support my point about it becoming a trend:
Source: http://www.ramcigar.com/news/2004/1...nd-772519.shtml
10/19/04 - The effect of yellow Live Strong bracelets on campus has been negated by good intentions gone wrong.
It's hard to look around campus without seeing one of the yellow bracelets. If you're unfamiliar with the program, "Wear Yellow Live Strong" sells the bracelets for $1 each. Proceeds benefit The Lance Armstrong Foundation.
The goals of the program are to raise funds for research, raise cancer awareness and to provide cancer victims support. However, the bracelets have become a status symbol on college campuses as opposed to endorsing the message.
For example, if you walk around the outside of the Memorial Union, you can see students wearing Live Strong bracelets while on cigarette breaks. It's nice to know that they support cancer research, but a conflicted message is delivered. Smokers are supporting cancer research by buying a bracelet, yet they are possibly inflicting the condition upon themselves, and thus ensuring that even more money will be needed to fight cancer.
Likewise, people have given Live Strong bracelets away as gifts in bulk. This is despite the fact that the bracelets are currently in high demand with waiting lists. These gift-givers are not allowing people to support a cause that they believe in due to the arbitrary bestowing of bracelets.
This isn't as bad as those who have tried to profit from the shortage, though. On E-Bay, the Live Strong bracelets currently have bids as high as $10 for a single bracelet. Bracelets can also be bought in bulk on the site.
Neither the seller nor the buyer is innocent in this transaction. The seller is profiting off the popularity of what should be a charitable donation, while the buyer knows that he is preventing the Lance Armstrong Foundation from receiving more donations.
Lest we forget, Lance Armstrong is not a saint. His Tour de Force victories after overcoming testicular cancer are amazing feats and deserve to be celebrated. His tale is one of perseverance, and his efforts toward increasing cancer awareness are impressive.
However, this does not excuse his personal behavior. It is widely speculated that he broke up with his wife in order to pursue a relationship with Sheryl Crow. Armstrong is also the athlete most aligned with suspected steroid usage outside of Barry Bonds.
It's not popular to criticize a charitable program. Armstrong is genuinely attempting a noble effort of charity with his work, and it's not his fault that others have distorted his efforts. He and his program should not be held accountable if others attempt to canonize and exaggerate his accomplishments while overlooking his flaws. |

I made a thread about this before. I wrote my term paper on them for my pop culture class. I had one but I retardedly gave it away to a cute girl at the bar. I want another one but i don't want to order them online.
Here's my buddy steve rockin his out. He's the first person I know to wear one, and he's been wearing it for as long as I can remember:

This article holds minimal journalistic integrity to me. Full of hate.
Who cares if it's fashionable and hipocritical, it is working at raising money for a charitable cause at a record pace.
