Lightshows do NOTHING for me

Yes, I went to a Hulla party, and yes, I saw my fair share of lights flying around me, but I got NOTHING out of them.
People had crazy light globes, these tricked out moves, and so on, but I didn't get my jollies from light shows.
For those of you that enjoy lightshows, what makes them so good?
The only thing I find of value when it comes to lightshows, is the fact that if I pull my camera out and photograph them in long shutter mode, the picture'll prolly look cool.

| Don't know if you were on E at the time, Karim, but that is what makes the light seem really crazy; it feels like you're SEEING long shutter mode! :eyespop: |

I cant stand light shows. Especially when people come up to you when you're SOBER and start giving you one. Half the peeps dont know how to use them anyways.
Ill take a glowstick crowd any day over a whistle crowd. |

"Light show - light show?"
"ok"

"good eh??"
"hmmmmm...."
more crazy whirling - (will this ever end.....)
BOOM!!!! glowstick in the eye !!!!!
"FAACK!! Dude!!!" (roundhouse punch) POW!!!!
LIGHTS OUT!!!!!!
"where's my mommy........I think I'm blind......stupid light show!"

The wierdest thing I notice about some places, is that some dudes will take like 20 minutes to set up by placing glowsticks between their fingers. They'll take FOREVER to adjust the glowsticks in their hands so they're just perfect before they start going nuts. And everytime I've seen it, they suck.

What can you really say? Some people are into them and some people simply arent.
I find some people who are into light shows are people who DO light shows as well. They wanna check out someones moved as opposed to their own and perhaps learn something.
As someone who does plenty myself, I can tell you its not as easy as it looks. So whe you see someone who can do a good show, you can appreciate it more.
Then theres just the people who are so far GONE love the pretty colours...

being good takes a lot of practice.
Interesting/inventive patterns, variation of speed, control, the ability to surprise the people around you with misdirection of your body movement as well as those extra little tricks people have in their arsenal makes for a good show.
Back in the day, different 'rave toys' were an asset too, leading to many different styles and experiences.
These lightshows, in addition to the music of course, was one of the early draws to partying for me. Back in the day, if you sucked, you watched people and learned, and since there was still room at venues, you never had to worry about hitting other people around you. Today, it's just not the same, too many people who are either inconsiderate by flailing their arms wildly, or those who just copy the basic 'figure 8' and repeat it over and over, or the fact that very few are coming up with and new styles or toys to make it interesting again. Because of this, glowsticking has gotten a bad rep, but there are still some of us who aren't out there to cater to the cracked out people, or are gonna hit you in the face. There's just not enough of us left to influence the behaviour of all the other people with the sticks out there. |
