Concerts (pg. 9)

Being born and raised in indie/rock-city Kristiansand, attending concerts was inevitable for a music lover like myself. Some particularly memorable ones, mostly from the Quart Festival right where I live (www.quart.no):

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (Quart Festival, 2002) Sound sucked, and I feel sorry for the guitarist, who had to stand with his ear next to the monitor for the entire gig. It still rocked big time though.

D' Angelo, Missin Linx, 3rd Bass and Dead Prez all putting a massive grin on my face while the summer in Kristiansand shows off its best sides. Then as night sets in, Leftfield go on to pummel 3000 indie rock heads with some of the fiercest subbasses I've felt in my life. What a day. (Quart Festival, 2001)

Travis (Oslo Spektrum, 2003) Music was just ok, but it was just one of those times where I felt better than ever.

Fatboy Slim (Quart Festival, 2001) Not a concert per se, but still deserves a mention. Norman Cook is probably the only DJ who will ever manage to have enough crossover appeal to headline a rock/indie gig, let alone pull several thousand people and make them go completely nuts. I will never forget Michael Jackson yelling "you know I'm baaad!" on top of Mr. Oizo - Flat Beat.

I like that song, "Be Heathy." The one where they rap about eating your veges, getting your vitamins and Orange Juice :haha:

I can't get into much rap, but I do love hip hop. Especially older.

holy

there's this one song he does... whats it called
the luckiest!
its a really simple but powerful piano part, just mostly chords
and on the recording there's a chorus of aaah's that goes like, say its in the key of C major, EEEEEE F GGGGGGGGG (each one's a held quarter note or w/e)
and so before the song, he stands up and is like i know this song, but i need you to help me out
ok all the people in the audience with low voices, sing this after me
and he sings the EFG part, real simple
then all the deep voices in the audience do it
then he does the same thing with people with midrange voices
then gets all the people with high voices
so its everyone singing just one note on 3 octaves in unison
every single person in the entire place, and this is just a small theatre-ish venue at a local college, amazing acoustics that reverberate like crazy
so nearing the end of the song he signals for everyone do to that
and he goes for like 30 seconds just banging on the piano and everyone singing along loudly, its already pretty amazing
then he just stops on the piano and like conducts the audience for one time
then stands on the piano bench, and does it again
then he jumps on top of the piano, and has everyone do it one last time, but he has everyone hold that last note for like 15 seconds
and for those 15 seconds, everyone in the audience in this auditorium was holding the same note and it seriously was like a religious experience, it was absolutely mindblowing
and he signaled for everyone to stop and ran off stage
and then of course came on for encores
but ....that one song was ing AMAZING

I think he does that during the song "Army"
