well that for trance, it's taken me a while to realise this... but it's ruining the entire scene. why bother putting on nights when you only half fill a club... and only with the cliquey promoters and their mates at that anyway? if promoters aren't willing to put in a decent effort to attract regular club goers who are only out for a good night, and not necessarily the music, then stick to private funtions like house parties where you'll get the 'right crowd' who will truly and deeply appreciate the education the music gives them.

me, couldnt have said it better myself to be honest.

agreed. i've been going out for nearly a decade and a half, and while the music's changed (very slightly), not much else has. it's still fun, people still whinge, people still think the scene is dead/dying/new/exciting/whatever. life goes on.

because promotion for trance nights is e.

because different crews are competing against each other when there's not enough punters to go around.

because the focus is often purely on the music being underground/innovative/original and steering well clear from the 'cheesy' accessible anthems in case knowledgable trance fans hang on you.

Amen to that

Some people here need to open their eyes and see that its not nights in general that are dead, its the nights they find musically acceptable because they have become so well educated on what is "good music" and what tracks are "original and well produced" that they have long lost sight of and/or dismissed the music that the general punter goes to a night for.

Keeping in mind, that punter probably doesn't really care all that much if the music playing is recognisable "cheesy handbag house" so long as they can dance to it and have a good time while going off to the occasional weekly anthem that they can remember each week because its recognisable.

If you wanna see the nights you love to go to filling up with the punters then your gonna need to give them some incentives. You need to meet them halfway and swallow some of that musical connoisseur pride. Because they simply dont care what music you think is better. Just remember its the DJ's job to play music to get the crowd going, the music that the crowd knows and loves(yes because its popular to the masses)and the occasional new tune(yes because its going to soon be popular to the masses). Some people are mistaking the DJ's job as being to play music that only he and his chinstroking mates know and love who all applaud with 2 fingered golf claps making the DJ feel he is "cool" and has done his Job.

jules you give me way less credit than i actually deserve. do you honestly think i feel that its necessary to play epic trance from 10-7? and here i thought you knew me.. asshat.

my question is why arent any nights as succesful as they used to be.. people used to talk about clubbing like it was such an experience to look forward to and make a religion out of it.. now its more of a case of, whats doin fri or sat night, oh this is on, yeh fuqqit lets go there.

get me?

you cant have a night of straight up epic trance from 10-7...its just not gunna werk...look at the sant trans pretty succesful, but the music grows peaks from about 1-4 and by the end its either almost tech or it goes into that warped sorta ubik style. This used to work week in week out 4 or so years ago...no reason why it cant again.

why is it any harder...hundreds of kids turn 18 and wanna go out every day? there is a market that will always be there - it just has to be marketed right

zos works week in, week out, and if papa smurf decided to make it an epic trance night..it'd still work because as Paulie said there is too much focus on promoting the nights as musical extravaganzas and not just being awesome fun - bang on the money.
