The midi is just as important as the synth; we need both to see the composer's vision and forge our own from it. To create counter-melodies and effective pads and percussion, the midi track is essential (or the flp in the one guy's case).

I will definitely join in and make a remix of the chosen melody, depending on if it has good progression and a catchy, engrossing nature.

This is a great idea and a good way to promote the site; if we can get enough awesome remixes, it will definitely make waves and get people interested.

Good luck everyone

So, to who we send our submissions?

heres a quick melody i tried.

tyler c melody

that's a pretty good melody, some nice progressions there..

in my opinion, the system Fundamental proposes is the most logical way to go. however, i agree with EtherealSL and DJ Shibby that the sound is also important. it provides a much clearer view of the melody.. otherwise Swamper will have to judge them with the standard Winamp sounds again (piano/strings). just imagine Tyler's melody on a piano :nervous:

DJ Shibby is bringing up another good point, btw.. how many layers should the melody be made of? can it have counter-melodies already or should that be down to the remixer?

as for the track title, i'd say "Melody writer vs. Remixer - Track Name (TA Anthem)", as Ronk says..
The Drow
Nice melody tyler.
I would give it another rythem.
It's too standart.

Fine then, just there is a little problem, what about those who can not export to MIDI like me?

I just can not export to MIDI with my FL Studio for some reason, tho, I'm sure I can come up with an enjoyable Anthem Melody.
Couldn't I submit FLP files?

Sorry, I was acting as Fundy's clone yesterday... :p

I can help people set up FL to export midi (hopefully), I've done it before...
Fundamental
Er, people... If you're wanting to submit these melodies then don't do so yet as the submissions are meant to be anonymous!

The only was the melodies will be judged in a objective way is if everyone's is in MIDI format. We don't an inferior melody to be picked just because the synths anre nicer, especially when the finished version will sound completely different. Plus, MIDIs are quick and easy (which will allow even the most amateur of producers to get involved), and the file sizes are perfectly small for transferring.

The reason I said the track name should be "Artist A - Track Name (Artist B Remix)" is because when Artist A submits their version of their own melody then it would surely be an original. i.e. "Artist A - Track Name", and all other versions would be remixes of this.

an anthem should be great even in midi.

once again, midis just won't do justice to a melody... listen to some midis of successful trance songs... who said an anthem has to be a arpeggiated supersaw? what if you wanted to do something different... can you imagine john askew's remix of waterplanet's introspection on a midi, my god that would horrible and nobody would consider it (just based on the melody) for production.

i think TAs will be able to set apart melodies from synths. like said before, synthwork is just as important and in order to get the full idea (and potential) of the melody across, it should be played with the synth the producer had in mind.

i doubt there will be much bias based on who sent it. i mean, if luke terry or carl b or even airbase sent a ty melody, i don't think anybody will vote for it just because they sent it.

i made a TA Anthem long time ago...people liked it but it didnt got a special threatment

Well you can easily do that when you are making your remix of the selected melody!

Well, I dunno if I'd be best to send them to because I was planning on submitting a melody too! :p
