How many listens does it take to determine the quality of a track?

Blue.
1? 2? 30?

A lot of the songs that sound the greatest the first time get old very quickly and vica versa.

I usualy listen to a track once, then wait a day and listen to it another 2 or 3 times before I see if it's decent or not.

if im reviewing someones track ill usually listen 3 times.

1 time i listen for production quality, mastering etc.

2 ill listen to the riffs and leads.

3rd ill listne to it loud to see if points one and two stand in a different setting.

usually once.
Dj Minaya
depends on the song..

usually a couple of times

I like to listen to it alone in my headphones than on a loud system than if I can here it be used in various dj sets if possible to see how djs utilize it in their sets

hearing a great crowd reaction to a song is important to me

James Zabiela-Robophobia is a great tune but sounds weak when just listening in your headphones but hear it in his WMC mix or use it on a loud system yourself and its almost like a diff song :)
Dickie-T
depends on the track

some may need a full listen
some will do with just skipping through the track
some need multiple listens
Abhay
depends

I know with Beija Flor by Shpongle, I hated it at the start because it sounded so different to the stuff I usually listened to but something drew me back to it and I listened to it again and again. With each listen I found myself liking the track more and more. I must have listened to it about twenty times before I realised that I loved it!

If you listen to it 1000times and it still is good, then its a quality track.

To dertermine the quality one listen, why would it take more :whip:

I would disagree on that, simply cos some tracks which aren't 'good' at first get so later, in personal tastes anyway, I find myself liking stuff i didn't maybe 6 months or even a couple of years ago now & the likes, eg, in the last week i finally felt the sky was pink properly & it sounds so much better than before, sometimes it just clicks straight away, and sometimes it takes time, but it's never a set pattern imho
