A 1986 TOTY?
View this Thread in Original format

basically, this is the thread to nominate tracks for a 1986 (1986 and earlier?) TOTY.

- this time, unless someone is convincing me otherwise, im not letting pop pollute the poll
- this time its strictily EDM
- i'm not gonna cut out tunes that are older then 1986 either because i'm not gonna hold polls for previous years (and its not likely that someone else will)

as last time, there isnt a guarantee that this poll will take place, all depends on the amount of replies i get (& sources of it).

my suggestions:

Adonis - No Way Back (Trax Records)
Kraftwerk - The Telephone Call (EMI Records)
Marshall Jefferson - Move Your Body (The House Music Anthem) (Trax Records)
Model 500 - No UFO's (Metroplex)
Model 500 - Night Drive (Metroplex)
Mr. Fingers - Washing Machine (Trax Records)
Robert Owens - Bring Down The Walls (Trax Records)

thanks in advance to anyone who partakes.

for what years are there TOTYs? i'm interested participating in TOTY's from 92 and onward, and mostly interested in the 1995 to 2000.

i don't think there are sufficent number persons on here that were around in 86 or are aware of music from 86 to give meaningful nominations. i think people will nominate the one or two tracks they know from 86, and not select those because they are their favorite tracks after having thoughtfully considered many tracks from 86, BUT BECAUSE (aiwendel this is for you) those tracks are all that they know.

for instance, if one was to ask someone new to trance the best tracks of all time and they chose 'fill in the bank'. certainly, their selection would not be as valuable whose knowledge is deeper. just an observation.

i'm curious, why 86? seems so random to me.
Aiwendil
Denise Motto - IMNXTC (Play House Records)
Risse - House Train (Sentertainment)
Wired - To The Beat Of The Drum (Under World Records)
Chip E. - If You Only Knew (DJ International)
M.T.R. - The Walk (Under World Records)
Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk & Jesse Saunders - Love Can't Turn Around (London Records)
Hashim - Primrose Path (Cutting Records)
J.M. Silk - I Can't Turn Around (RCA)
Raze - Jack The Groove (Champion)
House Master Boyz And The Rude Boy Of House - House Nation (Dance Mania)

hey...the point of nominating is not to give you favorites. the point of voting is to give your favorite. duh.

i made one for 1987 that didnt go that well cause i allowed pop music in the poll.
other people on ta made polls for 2004, 2003 and 2002 if i remember right.

why did i start with 1987? because that year is very important to me as the 'official begining' of acid house. during that poll and the nomination period for it, there has been quite a demend for a 1986 poll, which is as far back as i'm willing to go.

In terms of importance:
Mr Fingers- Wahsing machine EP (specifically 'Can you feel it')
and
Farley jackmaster Funk feat. daryl pandy- 'love cant turn around'

Seminal tracks and pretty damn good to boot.

there's no way in hell im letting the final countdown in, for one it'll draw an ingnorant vote from people who only that track in the entire poll, and besides, it's considered rock by most.

toto is another thing reffered to as rock, even though i myself dont know that track, its not gonna be in the poll.

the rest seem to be synthpop at best, i'm not sure yet about those, especially considering how far back you went with some of them in terms of years.

Most of those are waaay before 1986 anyway.

My vote goes to: Beastie Boys- Licensed to Ill (whole album).

EDIT: Or Run DMC- Raising Hell.

I am pretty bad with the years of many of the songs that I own. Glad to see my favourite Detroit Techno production in the list, hehe ... (Model 500). Nice tunes! Familiar with most of these chicago house/detroit techno tunes.

Gotta add one, however, one of my favourite tunes of all-time, believe it or not, my #5 of all-time:

Bananarama - Venus!!! Yea Baby she's got it :eyes:  :haha:
