Sasha - Kaskade - Steve Porter - Mili Sefic & others @ SoundBar Chicago - June 10th (pg. 5)

i dont know i really enjoyed it.... sasha went up there as an artist not just trying to give every1 a fix... agreed porter's set was pumping every1 up... but u cant say he "owned" sasha.... thats a little extreme... they were two diff types of sets.... instead of sasha blasting you with high synth wails he took you deeper, darker... into a groove... mb i just loved it cuz im a dark prog fan... anyway... yea my roll was killed at two parts -so to speak ;)
1. sasha's bathroom break... not the fact that the music stopped... but the fact that the crowed ... complained... thought the set was over... and almost half left...
2. i dont know what happened but when those people got into a shoving match in the middle of the dance floor... that just flat out sucked....
so after those two things it kinda put a damper on my night...
as for song selection.. i know he played almost every track from involver ... i didnt hear him play watching cars go by though... |

I think Porter had the best set I've heard all year, though I did like Sasha's set as well. While lots of people use Ableton, Sasha's new controller, Maven, had some nice features.
Rob & Lucas, how late did you stay? I went up front and didn't see you when everyone was leaving. Did you go to G&D last night? |

Did you even read what I wrote, or just see that I said "Porter owned Sasha" and decide that it was blasphemy?
The whole point I was trying to make was that it wasn't what I wanted to hear, I'm sure plenty of people loved the set, but in general I thought it was a bore... and I also happened to think that Porter did a much better job working with the crowd, and giving people what they wanted to hear... Porter's set was my favorite of the night...
I do wonder how that set might have been different in a different venue... the one trend I've noticed with live Sasha sets over the years is the larger the venue, the more likely I am to enjoy the set. In a smaller venue like Soundbar, I think he takes a lot more chances with what he's playing and the art of his sets gets a little more avant garde. I think to a certain extent this is a double edged sword, because the more chances he takes in varying up the set the more he risks alienating people who came with certain expectations, while at the same time, people from the same show could be walking out saying "Holy ! What we just saw was amazing, he'd never do that at a quote en quote 'mega club.'"
Like I said in the original post, technically, I thought Sasha was pretty much flawless, disregarding his "bathroom break." But in general, it wasn't the Sasha I was looking for. And also like I said, it could happen to any DJ I go and see... I call the night like I see it, and the way I see it on 6/10/05...
Porter, Kaskade > Sasha or, if you'd rather...
Porter & Kaskade OWNED Sasha...
Just because he's a legend, doesn't mean he's above criticism...

| I had a great time on Friday and it was great hanging out with Rob, his friend Zack and Lucas! I definitely have to say I was blown away by Porter! He owned me that night! Don't get me wrong, Sasha was good too as well as Kascade for the little time I saw him but Porter was the best part of the night for me! His energy was great and made it so much fun to watch him up there! I didn't get to catch Mili but made up for it on Sat at Vision. It was my second time seeing Sasha and I hate to say it but last year when he was here at Soundbar I think it was a better show. I can't wait to hear more of Porter soon hopefully! |

i have never seen sasha..but his set was so unbelievably SICK! if i wasnt working like normal people everyday i would've stayed longer...*sigh*...
kaskade...was nice...it was a lot cooler downstairs too...beats were awesome.. |

Yeah man, I LOVE Sasha... it just wasn't for me Friday night... I'm definitely glad to see other people enjoyed it though, a lot of people were willing to stay on that floor in unbelievable heat!
As for me... well I'll just throw on the U&K Remix of "Wavy Gravy" and fall in love all over again...

| I did, in fact say that "Porter owned me". The only reason I said that was because he did, nothing against Sasha because he was good as well. But when I got there, Porter was just starting and from the time that I walked in until he stopped he blew me away! However, I still liked Sasha's set as well but for some reason I was just more into Porter that night, I'm just more into that style of music lately. I liked Sasha's set last year a lot more but he was still really good on Friday. Glad to hear everyone had fun! :) |

I agree completely. Last time the tracks had much more energy to them. I was hoping for a different set than what was played, but either way I still had a good time. |

| i didnt think it was that hot in there but then again i was at vision last weekend and that was like a sauna. i guess we just have to get used to the places getting really hot for the big names. i liked sasha's set for awhile but then it seemed to get kind of repetitive. i only stayed until 2:45 but i still thought it was a good show. and yes, his set last year at soundbar was a lot better. |

blah....sasha's set was amazing...
that coming from a dark prog fan, but the tracks he played are what i like to hear.....cheddar free (minus the closing track). i enjoyed his set more than g&d's set saturday night. incredible. awesome basslines.
porter and kaskade were excellent as well. really got me groovin'. i am now a fan of both.
i caught a little bit of mili's set (although i didn't know what he looked like at the time:) top-notch stuff....a great way to start off the night.
it was very hot and uncomfortable at times though. i needed to take many breaks to go downstairs or to the bathroom to throw water on my face. i stayed until the end, and when they turned on the lights, i saw everyone soaked in sweat. they need to install some fans or something....it was bad.
it was great to party with rob, zack, andy, and d&ggirl
