How do I tan without burning? OR How do I not become like Dan?

So as you all know, it's hot as hell outside, and my friends and I have decided to go to the beach each Sunday.
I'm pasty as hell. It's in my genes. I burn ridiculously fast.
How the hell would I get some sort of decent base tan so I don't die this coming Sunday? No, I'm not going to some tanning salon, I want to do it the good old fashioned cancer-causing way. |

go to the damn tanning bed for two 8 minute shots, then two 10 minute shots. you'll be g2g.
12-15 in your first couple days will get you a mild burn, and anything more will redden you like an apple. |

You mean "How do I get wrinkles and cancer without burning?" Well mate that's easy :toothless :toothless :toothless
On the other hand you can put some sunscreen on you and you'll tan anyway just very slowly...however you reduce chances of skin cancer and other nasty things... |

I would just wear a decent sunscreen & keep applying throughout the day. It will still allow you to get a tan
But this advice is coming from someone who got BAD sunburn yesterday so carry on

Liberal use of sunscreen over all exposed flesh. Reapply throughout the day, esp. if you sweat a lot or go into water.

| Now the real question is, how do you put sunscreen on your back when you are alone? :p |

I find the spray works just as good and/or pull over a stranger and ask them to lather you up

just like everyone else has said.. just make sure you re-apply the sunscreen all day long.. the higher the SPF doesn't mean the less you have to put it on... if you are really pasty i would say to apply it to at least once every hour to and hour and a half and bring a beach umbrella.. that way if its starts getting too intense no matter how much screen you have on you can just chill under that and still enjoy the kick ass weather!

| I burn pretty easily too, so sunscreen is the way to go. Get a lower SPF rating if you want more UV rays, but reapply more frequently then. |

Try using sunscreen for babies. It works really well.
I also recommend the the tanning bed thing as DigitalMP mentioned, I have had several pale white friends who have done that and it worked. They did 5 minuute sessions spaced out every third day, it worked out to be about 4 sessions until they started tanning. See how your skin responds and go from there. |

But those are direct UV rays on your skin and pose a high risk for it...So you gotta be careful of all those tanning salons, unless it's some spray tan thing. |
