Marco V plays a slow house set...

So I've seen Marco V one other time about a year ago when he came here to Seattle. He blew the roof off as myself and everyone I was with expected him to do. So naturally when we saw he was coming back again this past May, we went expecting to hear Marco V play as he normally does. So the opening Djs, a couple of friends of mine, warm him up very nicely, around 133-135BPM.
Marco V comes on at midnight, everyone is excited. 20 minutes go by and I'm wondering whats the hold up. To make a long story short, he kept the tempo the same, in the low 130s, and played house music the entire night. Didn't play a single one of his own productions. Everyone was kind of shocked. Even the promoter at the end of the night approached Marco V and said, "What was that all about?" His repsonse, "This place isn't big enough for me to blow it up." The place had a good 200 people there. I've seen many a DJ in the past blow the same place up. Not sure why he felt he couldn't. Anyone else experience something like this? |

| I don't blame him, he always plays house in his sets, and with that few people i can see his misunderstanding. Sucks that he didn't Bang Bang you guys though :( |

| Intesting story indeed. As I am a fan of both house and Marco's ordinary style none of these scenarios would dissapoint me - the question is however, how well did he do behind the decks with the house he played? |

At LSC? LSC and Element dont seem like the proper place for Marco V in Seattle.
Marco V at a 16+ massive with 6-7k people going nuts works... tiny little club with the whole 21+ crowd... not so much.
I knew a promoter that tried to bring Johan Gielen to that club a couple months back... went very bad. IT DOSNT WORK!!!!!
BTW, Just for the record, Marco was here in October for Freaknight 8 and he tore the out of me and about everyone else in the venue... and he did play Bang Bang... He was so intense I was too tired to see Nu-NRG after him... :nervous: |
Yep you got it Nou, at LSC. And yes, he did tear the out of me too at Freaknight which is the time I was referring to when he blew the roof off.
But I'm going to have to disagree with you in saying that blowing up LSC doesn't work. Yes unfortunately, Johan's turnout wasn't the greatest and that was sad seeing it was his first time in Seattle. However, in contrast to Marco V, a few weeks later, just 2 weeks ago actually, ATB came to LSC and OMG he destroyed the place like no other DJ I've ever seen. I wish you were old enough to have been there Nou! ;) His set was banging at 145+, the crowd was going insane. His stage presence was among the best I've ever witnessed. I've never seen that much energy at LSC. That is what I expected Marco V to do. Marco's mixing was superb with the house he was spinning however. |

| It's the way Marco has been taking things recently, and no, I don't like it much either. Luckily, he still knows how to bang things as long as the gig is big enough. |

Oh no doubt about small venues being able to explode, sometimes it works better, I have been to a ton of shows at The Catwalk, and that place is about 1000x smaller than LSC... last time I was there was with Ollie from the Warp Brothers, who would have no time controlling a crowd of 10k people, but did just as well with 150-200 people in the Catwalk that night.
I think more people would have been impressed with Marco V though at a venue like Premier or something, Element and LSC are tiny... :nervous: |
No doubt! I can't imagine what PVD is going to be like next Friday night!! Sardine city!! :nervous: |

This wouldn't be the case if it was at a place like, oh...

Seattle gets the big names, but at ty venues. |

Magnus,
Sorry to hear about that bro. I was gonna head down there for that show but had a few other things going on and now I'm glad i didn't make it. So atleast the last i remember of Marco was him blowin it up at freaknight! :eyes:
PVD at Element is worrying me more and more. Although I'll be there I'm awfully scared to see how packed its gonna get.
I will say though, Hernan Cattaneo's set at Medusa a few months back was one of the sickest sets I've ever heard and he didn't get above 135 bpm once and the place was going nuts. But of course I was expecting that, I woulda been scratchin my head at Marco's show as well. |
