Yeah!
I just got back and what an amazing night, sorry I didn't stay afterwards and say goodbye to everyone but we had to leave and I saw you guys upstairs so it'd be hard to start hunting all of you down, etc.
Anyhow a great set from Ferry!!! It was awesome to meet all of you for the first time, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves like I did. I danced pretty much all of the night away and once in a while went up by the DJ booth to cool off. And I finally got hit by the CO2 blasters - something I've been waiting for.
Erik K blew... well not that bad but it wasn't anything special, just another DJ that knew someone in the biz and is getting gigs now. Goes to show that even in the DJ biz it's not what you know (or how well you know how to do it) it's who you know.
Ohh! And a certain someone forgot to get their Erik K CD out of my back pocket and I couldn't find her after the show so I guess we'll have to meet again - though I'm sure she isn't interested after the I pulled :wtf: - I'll just appologize again for it.
I can't remember , I mean I can but there's just too many to list. Highlight song of the night - sounded like and old Platypus record that Oakie has spun quite a few times back in the day with a little Ferry flair to it. Everyone who was at the show knows what I'm talking about - we discussed it.
That's about it, hope to see everyone again.

Decent set from Ferry, wasn't super crowded, great time. The co2 sure felt good cuz it was hot as hell.
Erik K wasn't bad either, but then again im easy to please.
Only problem was my buddy was stupid drunk and hurled all over himself in my car.
Next Saturday is gonna bite.....hard. BT would have been cool to see but oh well.
Bring on Blank & Jones. |

Sweet Sorrow
Right Of Way

...someone help me remember the first bonus track it was real familiar but I can't remember name.
Other than that from what i understand a bunch of tracks from Armin's Ibiza album of last year...
I dunno, I can't seem to remember a whole lot now. |

Awesome night last night once ferry got on. I didn't like Erik K really either. I thought his set was really choppy and didn't really have any sort of flow. Ferry's set, while not the greatest, was pretty damn good imo. I'm honestly suprised that he didn't spin Punk. Here's some of the tracks that I remember:
Mirco de Govia - Voller Sterne (Super8 Remix)
BT - Force of Gravity (Ferry Bootleg)
Above & Beyond ft. Andy Moor - Air for Life (Original Mix i think)
Mirco de Govia & Ronski Speed - Asarja (MdG Remix)
Yilmaz Altanhan - Eighties (Ozgur Can Remix)
Ferry - Sweet Sorrow
Ferry - Right of Way
Marco V - More than a Life Away
Marc Marberg - Guarana (one of my def. favorites of the night)
Ferry - It's Time
Ferry - Rock your Body, Rock
Ferry - I Love You
Ferry - Holding ON (flashover mix)
Thrillseekers- Synthaestia 2004 (ferry remix)
and the last song was Gouryella -Tenshi
He played a ton more, but i that's all that I remember (i think he played sublime too).
it was kind of amusing at the end because it looked like ferry talked to the guy in the both and said that he was gonna play two more songs...then the guy said that's cool...he cued up synthaestia 2004 and then stopped the music. he knew that the crowd was gonna want one more song, and then we chanted one more song....and slid up his fader and synthaestia was playing. just goes to show how well ferry knows his crowds... |

It's hard to just review Ferry, because in reality, a big reason that the night was so damn good was far beyond the music. We had an AMAZING turnout at Kazbar, I couldn't believe it, it was the most TA's I've seen in one spot since "Addiction." It also reaffirmed to me just how much I enjoy meeting and partying with TA's... It was great to see and talk to everyone...
Christen: Every time I'm in Chicago we see each other early on in the night and I end up running amuck all over the club! It was good to see you again, and thanks for everything, I'll shoot you a PM with a link to my sets for ya ;)
Andy: Addiction 2, August 2K5... You know I'm in :D It was good to see you again, always good to talk with you man...
Chris: Glad you got in buddy, it is always awesome to see you man! Apologies things didn't work out exactly as they should have (For any of us really...), but I hope you had a good time regardless...
Neile: Man it was a pleasure to meet you, you're a damn nice guy, I hope we can party again real soon, definitely again before the Summer is out...
Dennis: Always good to see the Aristronica ooot and aboot! It was nice to talk to ya again, and yeah, whatever the that track was, it was straight prog trance choonage... I do think I heard it Oakey circa '99-'00...
Tony: Plasure to meet ya man, definitely always nice when it's easy to talk to someone about common interests (Spinning, Recreational Chemistry, etc....) Hope to see you out and about again, enjoy your trip to Thailand if I don't see ya before then...
Squirrel: Nice to meet you man, too bad you were so cashed out, you missed a hell of a set! Hope to see you out again soon...
Myra: What can I say that hasn't been said already? Another great night out! Thank you again sooooo much for everything, I have so much fun out with you and Devin it's ridiculous...
I say we organize a TA marathon night for the night of John Aquaviva @ Smartbar (Yes, I did say SMART-bar and NOT Soundbar... :p) and JXL @ Vision... it's likely the next time I'll make it down to Chicago...
As far as the night at Vision:
Everyone is being far too kind to Erik K... I could articulate to long post regarding why he's not good, but thte fact of the matter is, he's not good. He didn't just have a rough night; the fact of the matter is, he's NOT ready for a club like Vision. And the one thing I will say was the worst about him; His shameless self promotion, banners, tons of flyers littering every urinal and stall... and I guess none of that would have been TOO bad (Well, the banner was certainly completely unwarranted...) but the incessant "You're listening to Erik K!" promo's were just disgusting...
As far as Ferry, that was the single best Ferry set I've seen, period. Not only did I think his mixing was exceptionally tight, he rocked the effects on that DJM 600 far more than I've ever seen him do before, I've been playing the echo/delay on my mixer all day after watching him from above for the last hour of the night.
His set was put together unbelievably, and was exceptionally varied. He played far fewer Ferry productions and remixes than he did in April, definitely bust out a lot of what are the newer tracks that are already being declared the "Anthems of Summer," but more than that, he played some tracks that just floored me in the sense that I would expect Ferry Corsten to play them. Case in Point:
Ylmaz Altanham - "Eighties" (Ozgur Can Remix)
:wtf: :wtf: OMGWTFBBQ :wtf: :wtf:
I'm sure he's played it before, but in the 7 times I've seen Ferry, I've never heard him play too much that I would call "Progressive," and when you consider that he was playing around 138-140 BPM all night, and that track at 0% is 126 BPM, I thought it was pretty dope... very PVD'esque...
That set was probably my favorite live set of the year so far...
Beyond that, I gotta say an especially large thank you to Myra and Devin for their unbelievable hospitality this weekend. I LOVE to party with you kids, and I hope that we'll be able to go out again before JAV/JXL...
ALl in all, an unbelievable night... Phew, long post...
;)

| Regarding Erik K: Why hate on him? In my opinion he's the best trance DJ Chicago has to offer. Of COURSE he isn't up to calibur of the big names that come through Vision.. of COURSE he can't mix like them. They've been at it for.. two decades? He just recently began to spin 100% trance as well.. and as far as I'm concerned he has a great ear and picks some pretty damn good tracks. I for one will be buying his CD within the first few days it comes out.. no other local DJs (besides maybe DJ M Project) come CLOSE to Erik K when it comes to trance. |

Alright, I didn't want to have to do this, but here we go...
First, regarding his track selection - Ramming cheese anthem after cheese anthem isn't going to get any votes to begin with as far as I'm concerned, and there is absolutely no reason I should be hearing "Adagio For Strings" at 12:30...
Second, regarding his mixing; It was pitiful. He showed absolutely no understanding of phrasing, his mixes ran about :10-:30 seconds, and in the 40 minutes I was there he threw at least 2 mixes that were so off key it was like nails on a chalkboard. The following midwest TA's could consistently mix better and have a better idea of phrasing, key, and developing their own sound than Erik K:
Seneca
Daniel K - Amateur
Wolverine16 - Amateur
Crrrazydan - Amateur
Lucas Smith - Amateur
TylerC
Topher Jones - Amateur
Benjamin B - Amateur
Mili
Aristronica - Amateur
etc.
Point is, Erik K displayed absolutely no desire to innovate during his set, and honestly, didn't appear to have the ability to if he wanted to. If his set at Vision on Saturday night is any indication of how he works he brings absolutely nothing new to the table, and he's certainly not at the forefront of the Trance scene (Old Trance is nice, but god damn, I swear to god I heard the same set he spun last night 2-3 years ago). I would never spend money to see/hear his music, and honestly, I can't believe he got booked to open for Ferry.
I highly doubt this is the best Chicago has to offer for local trance, and if it truly is, that's one of the saddest things I've ever heard. |

yeah i didn't want to have to get into detail with it either but since someone actually wants to back his ass up i'll take a rip at it
erik k sucks... even forgetting his track selection, which was just downright out of order and didn't blend well from track to track at all - forget all that, you give me his CD case and the set would sound better. if they let me, which they wouldn't have, but if they did i was about to walk into the DJ booth myself and show him how to work those CDJs and that CDM proper.
Besides all that, dropping "you are listening to Erik K" in the middle of the set is just downright stupid... or maybe he thinks the crowd is a bunch of retards - which doesn't make me feel any better about it. We know who the you are from all the banners hanging up and the flyers scattered all over the place. Stop further ruining a set that's already bad with your self-promotions.
that's my two cents.
