would that necessarily be a bad thing?

and what do you mean sit back and relax? you think that people at a record label just sit with their hands behind their head with their feet on their desk and watch the money come pooring in?? hahahahaha. they work too man.

They also take all the money from the producers, just as Bill Gates or any other person that "runs/owns" a company...

Why don't you write them a letter telling them to pay the producers more money so they can produce better tracks?

he doesn't "take the money" from his employees. stock options have absolutely nothing to do with the employees and all it entails is purchasing shares of the company's stock at extremely low prices and then selling them at current market prices. that's how execs at companies make all the money man. they just don't "take it away" from the employees. and he doesn't own microsoft...the shareholders do.

they sign contracts. what am i gonna do...write a letter saying that the label should give producer x 5% more of the royalties or what have you. if the producer wants 5% more, then he should negotiate about that before he signs a contract. not much you can do to alter it after the fact.

i dont think it is based on %... It shouldnt even matter though. The people that run the label are obviousely makeing much more then the producers do...

"artists primarily get paid an advance for their track, plus a % of sales (vinyl, mp3, cd) whether they get a direct cut for compilation features is stipulated in the contract"

direct from luke terry himself. (page 2)

and what is that point...i'm positive that my original point is that producers should get paid for producing as opposed to being content producing (aka working) for free...

this isn't necessarily true... artists normally get a cut of the revenue whether the label profits or not

im simply saying that if you want better productions & want producers to make more money, let the richer people in the scene pay it. How can you expect Bedroom Dj's too? They NEVER make money.
