do you guys with m-audios bx5 or bx8 or whatever monitors really need a subwoofer? id think you could 'feel' the oompf coming out of these monitors just fine..

I use Behringer Truths. To be honest, I don't find them suitable for production. The highs are too harsh even with the back switche sin minimum. Sub-bass is lacking for an 8" woofer, you know. I have heard smaller speakers pump out more bass. Now, I give them one good point...they are LOUD. I pump up the bass in my Mackie mixer and crank them real high close to limiting...which is a nice feature so they don't distort, and wow, they really sound great as music speakers. But as monitors, nah...they fatigue quite a bit and I haven't gotten used to them in the year and a half I have had them. I got my Sony MDR-7506 headphones a few months ago and I am accustomed to them already. =o)

Thanks Rico, I was thinking of buying a pair of Truths, but I could never find an honest review to tell me about them.

I've got a pair and hav no problem with them at all. I've also got a mate who swears by them - and hes had tunes belted out on radio 1.

a bx5 or bx8 aren't comparable for needing a sub since the difference is one is 5' and the other 8'. completely different story. i find 5' monitors lack bass, and you would need a sub with them to accurately hear the bass. 6.5 i found is best for home use, cause unless you have a big studio accoustically designed properly, anything higher then 6.5' i think would cause ear fatigue faster since you have these big woofers pointed directly at your ears. any comments on that from the ppl with the 8' monitors???
