do you guys with m-audios bx5 or bx8 or whatever monitors really need a subwoofer? id think you could 'feel' the oompf coming out of these monitors just fine..

you're missing the entire first octave... of course its necessary

how do the dyn audios compare to the event precision? i wasn't as impressed as i thought i'd be with the event precision considering the price, but i always hear great stuff about dyn audio, but have yet to actually hear the monitors.

Well, mine in particular are great for higher db and mid-field range listening. This comes in handy for mastering operations and 24bit referencing dithering and noise-shaping operations when down sampling. I find it useful to also have a cheaper pair of near-field references for average production work.

cool, i think down the road as i get more involded in the music industry, i'll use my tr-6's as backup's and look into the dyn audio for the more advanced set so i'll be able to compare between the two.

edit: just out of curiousosity, what type of sucess have you had in the industry so far? i'm sure you've done some projects to part with that much on monitors.

I can understand that actually. Also that they're better suited for mid-field work, which is why I'm happy enough with my BM5A's now (was wanting to get BM15A's at first).

djbuuren, to answer your question, I'm not sure about the Event Precisions, but imo the BM5A's are still one of the best you can get for their price range. One of the things that first made me fall in love with Dynaudio Acoustics monitors (the BM15A to be exact) was their stereo imaging, and I'd probably got as far to say that I prefer the BM5A's over the Mackie HR824's. The BM5A does have smaller drivers, but they really can go LOUD. Very good mid and top end clarity too, with a good, punchy bottom end down to 50 Hz.

They do sound a little on the bright side in the extreme top end, but I question whether that's because I don't have a subwoofer to balance the spectrum out (the lower octave would mask the top end). Either way, I was able to compare them against Behringer Truths before buying them, and in addition to the sound magically 'jumping out' of the BM5A's when A/B comparing them, the sound was just that much more detailed and transparent, with the Truths sounding muffled and distorted. All around, they're very open and clear, with a wide and impressive sound stage.

You can use them reasonably well without a BM9S, but I'm sure it'll add that extra dimension when I do finally get a sub. But, need to upgrade my DAC to an Apogee Mini-DAC first. :gulp:
