You bet!! Our love is devoted to music and dj culture, so you can bet we're gonna be the customers best friends!! like someone buying a new track i'll be like "damn man you know that mixes really well into this track.. why dont you come on up here and try it out.." (: |

Hey!
Me and Rob Noli had a very similar idea to do something here in T.O.!
The record stores are severely lacking in our opinion.
Just curious, if you wouldn't mind, how much are you ivesting into the store? We worked it out that we would need around 50-75 grand (Canadian) which is like 200 dollars American...haha.
If you wouldn't mind, we would be interested in knowing, |
well we haven't gotten any figure yet.. i am going out this weekend to check prices on rent in a few areas.. checking what funds we need to get everything "legal" and all.. we want to have 6 months rent set aside, then i'll have to calculate equipment and inventory, employees aren't a worry because we are handling the store ourselves the first couple months (unless the idea just EXPLODES, we have friend who's gonna be our "bitch" hehe) but all in all we are thinking possibly $30-$50k to start (sounds right on match with yours!!) Keep in touch with me though and i'll let ya know what i come up with.. i'm picking up a couple books on starting a buisness, and i know a few people who thier own stores, so i'll be in touch with everything we're gonna need. equipment and inventory are what we think are gonna be the killers, getting the best tables and mixers, and all the furinture etc for the lounge room. |

i may have a chance to be in dallas a couple times throughout the year, so that would be a wonderful place to go to. when are you plans for opening? where will it be? and most importantly do TA's get a discount? hehe ;) |
when we open shop i'll post it here!! so yeah come down and visit us!! come spin for us or something!! (:
we plan on opening up summertime.. and probably either in deep ellum area or north dallas.. and about that discount.. it's always possible (esp if you bring friends from college station!!) |

on the lounge side, u need to keep them happy while there there, coz u dont want ur customers buggering off to the cafe down the street and getting a drink and having a e there and then comming back coz pound to a penny they wont, so basically one uni-versal toilet? and vending machines, one for drink and one for snacks? just some more ideas... |
good point.. we'll get a pop machine and probably snacks too.. toilet of course *grins* we'll probably stock all the "scene" magazines so you can chill out and read up. we're thinking about selling "rave" clothes maybe, doing out own dj culture oriented t-shirts ("chicks dig DJs" i always wanted that one), and maybe even custom slip-mats.. |

What you're all describing sounds like a real cool shop. If I lived in Dallas U would become my regular record-supplier
anyways I live in Holland. It's not like we have bad record shops hehehe I get my kicks right here
Actually a record shop which was my regular shop had that lounge-thing too....relaxed sofa's n stuff....It's a damn shame the guy who owned it let the record thing die away and focused on selling women party clothes.......(it was real nice when it was that and recordshop too....lots of pretty ladeez in da place!)
Anyways....I hope you will become Dallas' market leader...sounds like a nifty place....now just make sure you have the newest music for the lowest price! |
that's reassuring that a similar idea was very popular elsewhere.. and that people already seem really interested in this.. it's giving us the extra drive we're gonna need to survive lame ass computer technician jobs until we get open!! yeah it would be nice to be market leader but what we really want is to make enough money to keep open, pay OUR personal bills, and enough extra spending money that we're used to right now.. we really want to create a dj community out of this!! *beams* we hope to get some names in for signings.. i mean how badass would it be, next time tiesto is in town, grab him for a store signing and we could take him out for drinks after we close!! (: it's far fetched but jesus it CAN HAPPEN!! ^___^ |

| also one good thing is ...whenver some comes in the store ...tell them to write down there email address... and whenever u guys get the new arrival list for the stores send the list out to all the people and tell them when it arrives ..that really helps too |

my ole regular shop i mentioned, they would let ya look into their list of ordered vinyls (if ya asked), so you could see what to expect. Also you could order any record you wanted, the guy would pick it up for ya. Anyways he didn't exactly know when he got his stuff delivered, so you'd have to stop in once every week or sumpin :D
Now a good idea I think is to hang the list of vinyls you (the shop owner) ordered and are waiting for to get delivered, right in the shop, so everyone can see it without askin for it. |

Both very good ideas.. I would think that I could hang a list of UPCOMING releases and you could leave a note that you want one, so I would order extras.. and of course special ordering as best as I can. I also think it would be nice to set up a "swap community" if you're looking for something we can't order, post a message up and if someone has it they can contact you!! (: |
