hey everybody.. just wanted to let you know that sometime next year a friend of mine and myself are going to be opening a record store here in dallas!! we're going to try and make it real special, more of a "community" than just a place to buy records. right now we're thinking of calling it "dj culture" (:

of course our primary bidness is to sell records (duh we have to pay bills and all), and we'll be stocking anything and everything dj related. trance, techno, house, breaks, the good and the bad!! the back room is going to be like a lounge area where you can chill and listen to new tunes, talk to people about music and the scene, etc etc, and we're gonna rent out tables every week for starting djs to come promote themselves. other ideas like such are brewing.

so what would you guys personally like to see in a record store? what would keep you coming back simply because the place is just damn cool?
amit
cheap shipping :) and cheap records only if you have an online store :)

not online!! (though we're gonna sell used stuff that we get on ebay probably) i mean a place that you walk into.. (:

You know those turntables where ya can try out some records?

Well put 2 of them there and a mixer, and instead of having to listen thru headphones put it on the main system.

Ahem yea I know that this makes buying records last a couple of hours. And only one dude can listen to .

Well sounded fun anyways :D

another one! free drinks!

Well of COURSE!! We're gonna have 4 tables with 2 mixers setup for customer use (maybe just 2 to start) and a mixer.. headphone of course, with the option to play them through the main speakers.

Though.. I might think that just have 2 tables and no mixer.. cause probably want those just to be used to listen to stuff before people buy.. but we will be "renting" out the main counter tables on say every Tuesday and Thursday night after close.. so you could come in and play a set to practice and promote, and we'll be open for people to come in a just chillax during those times, so also.. it's be a good place to just come in and hear some new djs and all..

Of course, the main counter is gonna have tables and a mixer.. and we'll be DJing throught store hours, so most likely when ya come in you might get to hear some of the new being played live (by dj pixyjunket woo!!)

Free drinks? Ha! Probably not.. but we were thinking of haveing a pop machine and maybe get some coffees in there for the lounge..

Thanks man!! The record shops here are lame.

The chill lounge.. we're gonna buy a few of those REALLY comfortable couches, probably hang all kinds of rave and party flyers in there, and of course have a bulletin board for people to promote parties and . probably get some neat novelty lights and all. most likely the back chill room will also be used as a dance floor for the nights where we rent out the tables.. we're working on the designs right now but that's a good idea of what'll be like.. we were also thinking of getting a couple of video games in there, like the old Samurai Showdown or something.. ideas are still coming..

What you're all describing sounds like a real cool shop. If I lived in Dallas U would become my regular record-supplier

anyways I live in Holland. It's not like we have bad record shops hehehe I get my kicks right here

Actually a record shop which was my regular shop had that lounge-thing too....relaxed sofa's n stuff....It's a damn shame the guy who owned it let the record thing die away and focused on selling women party clothes.......(it was real nice when it was that and recordshop too....lots of pretty ladeez in da place!)

Anyways....I hope you will become Dallas' market leader...sounds like a nifty place....now just make sure you have the newest music for the lowest price!

on the lounge side, u need to keep them happy while there there, coz u dont want ur customers buggering off to the cafe down the street and getting a drink and having a e there and then comming back coz pound to a penny they wont, so basically one uni-versal toilet? and vending machines, one for drink and one for snacks? just some more ideas...

Hey! im so there... :D
i may have a chance to be in dallas a couple times throughout the year, so that would be a wonderful place to go to. when are you plans for opening? where will it be? and most importantly do TA's get a discount? hehe ;)

sounds sweet :)

Hey!

Me and Rob Noli had a very similar idea to do something here in T.O.!

The record stores are severely lacking in our opinion.

Just curious, if you wouldn't mind, how much are you ivesting into the store? We worked it out that we would need around 50-75 grand (Canadian) which is like 200 dollars American...haha.

If you wouldn't mind, we would be interested in knowing,
