So, my sister went off to boot camp, and I inherited her amp and sub, 500 watt amp, and 2 10" subs. i had these hooked up in the car, and recently, my buddy sold me a pair of 12s (kind of beat up, but still sound good) for $30. i have these hooked up to the 500watt amp as well. my question is, should i get a bigger amp? could i cause damage to the subs or the amp with the current set up? also, what kinda stuff do you guys have in your vehicles?

| what are your make and model of subs/amp and how many watts RMS are the subs? i hear it's just as bad to underpower the subs as well as overpower them.. |

i have no idea how many watt the subs are.. the amp is an Audiovox Rampage
i guess the tens are these
they came in a real nice lookin box, but they dont have them on there.
the 12s are beat up, theres silicon holdin em together in some places, but they can still kick out a good amount. they're gonna be a little bit of a project to get em ship shape. |

I concur
Back in the day I had some 15" Kickers hooked to a RF amp that wasnt strong enough and I managed to still blow the speakers. |

ooo fifteen inch. i would like mine to be sharper, so that the detection is turned down, so it sounds less sloppy, how would you do that? |

Sounds like you're underpowered. Not a bad deal, but you're not utlizing the potential of two 10" and two 12". I got 1400W in the kid's car with two 12" and got 510W in my Ranger with two 10". Can't imagine the power of both combined. The Kid's 1400W system rocks the damn grid square. You have to have some condensers and installed to save your alternator though, else it will burn out because your system is actually producing much more ampherage than the rest of the car combined. Friggin' awesome. Get at least another 1000W amp and some condensers to chill it out and you would have a system of envy in the town.
:p

lol I need a 600watt amp just for my 10" it RMS at 600 and peaks at 1400 watts
for 2 12s id be using a 1000watt amp with 2 outputs and that would be underpowering it.
RF1000a2 or something.
I used to run a 1000a4 to power 4 satellites (5 1/4) with tweeters on the bridges and a 500a2 bridged to 1 powering an infinity perfect 10"
used the Kenwood z909 mp3 player to power. was about a 2000 dollar system or so at the time. Got a lot from thezeb.com that place rocks and lets you return.
------
point being, get more juice. it distorts at higher output and maxing out your little amp will not be good for the sub. |

Well, f*ck. Maybe I need some 12" woofers in the cab of my Ranger pickup. There's room behind the seat if I stack them on top of my 10" woofs. WTF. I'm crazy enough to do it. Give me enough alcohol and anything goes.... Lol!!!!

W3rd. Need to boost my to bother the neighbors a half mile away.
I'm liking them 15" woofs. Would need about 1500W to push them on top of everything else I own in there now.
Lol!

| you guys do realize that the human ear cant hear the range of subwoofers that are larger than 12" for the most part right? It why you hear them OUTSIDE of cars. It takes forever for them to hit audible range over distance. So 8s and 10s are optimal for sound quality, 12s for sound and feel and 15s are for disney land rides. |
