Do you get annoyed at people who dis trance music? (pg. 2)

Man, I get through a lot of criticism and bad jokes about my music too. The good thing is about me is that I generally get along with most people, so its rare for someone to 'bash' it in front of me, since there's no reason for them to make me angry.

However, I get sick and tired of people saying that their music is better (some silly jokes in between), that their music 'ACTUALLY USES REAL INSTRUMENTS' and bull like that, and that electronic music is repetitive (and by the way, ALL MUSIC is repetitive), or it all sounds the same. Just some crap said by people who know nothing about EDM. They claim they have the right to bash it, yet they cant name FIVE electronic music artists, any EDM artists for bloody sake - some cant even name a single techno/trance song, haha. And yet I am well familiar with any mainstream music, though I dont listen to it, but I dont go around telling people their music sucks! I cant stand most POP/mainstream/non-electronic music, but I bear with it and dont annoy other people while they tell all the bull about my music they want.

Well, they can kiss my hairy yellow arse right in the crack! :whip:

.... couple people actually really made me fLip on them when they told me that all electronic music ripped off other mainstream music or something like that.

I was like, how DO YOU DARE SAY THAT? That makes no sense! Its just plain idiotism, ignorance and stupidity!

I don't get that pissed. It depends though...

An 'emo' girl I know once said that trance is the only type of music that has no emotion in it. Fair enough, I like my banging tech-trance, it's a type of music where 'emotion' isn't the point... but a lot of trance does have emotion in it. Just because the singer's not blatantly singing about how he got dumped, doesn't mean there's no emotion, it's just more subltely expressed ;)

For people who just say 'trance is e', I just agree to disagree, they probably haven't even heard much proper trance. And I even have to agree sometimes, in the last year or two the majority of trance has been a bit on the crap side.

The 'real instruments' thing pisses me off. It's just different ways of producing a sound, it doesn't take away anything from the music.

I guess the main thing that pisses me off is that generally I'm quite open-minded with music, so it's annoying to meet people who're not (like emo girl mentioned above.) OK so I don't enjoy most of the music but (with the exception of the lyrics :p) I can respect that, like any music, it takes a certain amount of effort and talent on the musicians' parts to make it.

50 cent etc, on the other hand... doesn't take a lot of talent to make stuff like that, I guess the 'talent' is more on the side of labels/marketing/etc, but... music is music, people can listen to what they want. If they genuinely enjoy the music that's shoved down all our throats, then there's nothing wrong with that, it's only music!

Well, Tiësto has even received a "Medal of Honour" from the Dutch Queen for "putting Holland on the map in the international dance-scene!"

And he's a quite regular guest in talkshows and stuff.

why the is he wearing a jersey in front of the Dutch queen? Put a suit on you ing degenerate :P

as for the post, edm is actually IMO quite hard to get into. it took me years to really get into it. it's up to us to, when we hear 'trance sucks, etc' to give these people a cd like GU 13 or Tranceport.

I don't respect the royalty (in this country at least, dont know if their Dutch counterparts are any better..) but yeah it would be a bit different if they were giving you such a big award, I'd try to look good for anyone who did that p

I agree there isnt much about trance in the uk anymore, hard dance seems to have died in the last year and it's nearlly all rap and rnb everywhere you look, mayb some 'Hed Kandi' house - even the bouncy scouse house seems to be heading more underground.

I just laugh at their ignorance.

Theres a tiny scene of people in Colorado that know good music. You could count them in a club though. Mostly Denver residents. I had a good experience with them seeing Corsten and Van Dyk live.

Trance is somewhat "exclusive" where I live. Most Americans still worship the whole rap/hiphop/rock/pop thats on the waves. So they think trance is "that techno they play at clubs sometimes" lol.
