| i like trance the way it is here in the states right now. if trance hits mainstream radio, watch the cheese hit the fan. personally, i think mainstream radio ruins music by consistently playing the same tracks over and over and over every 2-3 hours. i'd rather listen to di.fm or etn.fm and hear trance than hear it on the local top 40 channel. i hope trance and edm in general stays where it is here. |

Trance as we know it has already had its 15 minutes, it is declining rather than on the rise these days. Trance will just be assimilated into pop music, which is pretty much EDM these days anyway.
The dance music fad passed by trance a long while ago, it also passed prog and electro shortly after that. I haven't been keeping up so I dont know where the fad is at the moment, but it seems over here at least that people want a dance music that sounds more 'hard' but not sounding like 'hardcore'. I also notice some of the electro influence is still lingering in popular dance music, I still hear alot of 8-bit sounding basslines and that sort of stuff.
Popular interest in dance music seems to fluctuate, it is at a low point at the moment. I imagine people will feel like dancing at another point in the future, and the next EDM fad will probably be ready for it. Like it or not, EDM is the same as any other music, it is about trends, fads, what is cool at the moment, the next big gimmick, every music has a gimmick. Trance is not cool anymore, Electro was pretty cool a little while ago but people seem to be getting sick of it. No way to tell what will be cool next, I predict it will be that rockish sounding stuff wtih a 4/4 beat that is getting pounded on the radio, mixed with a little bit more of the stuff we recognize from the previous EDM trends. Either that or the dancehall ragga sounding stuff, cuz everyon seems to enjoy pretending to belong to a different ethnicity. When I was in high school most people liked to stylize themselves after asians, when I was getting out of middle school pop music was in the middle of 'the latin explosion', and earlier in middle school kids were all about pretending to be black. So I think the islanders are the next ethnicity that us white people are gonna imitate. |

but minimal, acid house, tech house, and electro influenced sounds will be all over this board in six months... i will keep repeating this over and over. their is a few minimal addicts around here.;) |

yeah, I have been hearing the talk about minimal as well, I think you are right for what will be the next fad in EDM.
Care to name some good minimal that is semi-recent for us? |

I only know one minimal trance artist, but I really love his music, (shiva chandra). (I heard "creature" one night and it was killer, then I heard machine planet and i was hooked on his music)
[rant]btw, trance is not corrupted, well actually, thats a very general statement, but what I think is that it could bethe artists that have been around for a while, that release what seems to be a promising album, record, mix, etc. and you hear it at some club knowing its like digweed or sasha, but it doesn't seem like it. the hype is there but the song...... sucks. as the artists lose popularity they'll throw something out that just sucks and new fans can't get into it.[\rant]

| Trance is the future in my opinion. I mean as technology continues to improve and become more advanced into the 21st Century, I would be surprised if the trance sound becomes more popular amongst the masses. I mean to me trance has evolved since the 90s, and is definitely still evolving. An example of this is that nowadays the definition of trance is becoming blurred as it has blended the lines between genres, especially with progessive. This can be seen with DJs and Producers like Markus Schulz, Probspot, Gabriel & Dresden, Hydroid, Mike Foyle, Fred Baker and even Armin and Ferry...and many others who continue to blur the lines between trance and progressive in their sets or productions. |

Trance has to become cheesier and more appealing to the masses in order to become popular, and I think that phase has been and gone. |
